Hello, 3L in the hilux has finally packed it in(through no fault of it's own, took in water) and I have a chance to purchase a 2.4turbo. My few questions are.
Are all the pumps on these electronic?
Are the engine mounts and bolt pattern the same?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

it was only the 2lt-e that are electronic. the 2lt(1) and 2lt(2) are both mechanical. 2lt-e has efi written on the cross over tube.

personally i would give the 2.4 a miss unless your just buying it for the turbo gear. stick to the 2.8 ! they are pretty much a straight swap for the 2.8. i think one hang up is aircon if you have. if i remember right hilux has aircon pump in different location.

2LT's are the worst motor ever made by Toyota. Seriously, dont do it! It will crack a head if you sneeze near it. Ring a Desiel mechanic and ask them what they think of 2LT's.

2lt are not the best but u can put a 2.8 head on a 2.4 2.8 head is a stronger head ask a diesel mec he will tell ya i have a m8 that has had his 2.4 with a 2.8 head 5 years and still running a treat

Cheers guys!
So if i get a 2lt with a mechanical pump the blocks will be the same and it's a direct swap? The 2L head is the weakest link?? I've got the 3L head still so if I get it I'll stick that on, does it go straight on? So which of them had the compressor mounted on the passenger side? Mines on the drivers side.
Cheers!!

From my experience, the 2L, and the 2LT don't have many head issues, it seems to be the 2LTE that cracks the head every 6 months. The factory temp gauge on these toyotas are terrible, they sit on the halfway mark while your engines melting down, Im sure that there is a fix for this problem, but I didn't bother, just went out and bought an aftermarket gauge. I would stick with the 3L engine, practically everyone on the toyota surf site switches to the 3l because the 2LTE isn't very powerful, and does have a head cracking problem. From the dyno sheets that I have seen your looking at 40 rear wheel kilowatts from the 2lte, probably around the same as the N.A. 3l.
