So I'm just about to start to comp my patrol.
Was wondering what trucks and styles are being used,
Tyres and suspension setups etc
Post a pick and short specs sheet and tell what comps you do

second at Wilowglen ;) but first time driving at Toperi, went to drive as much of the comp as possible rather than points. Think we came 33rd but i drove to the big boulders at the bottom of course 4, so i was happy with that :)

That DGR ute is a pretty well set up car.

I've seen it here and there it is a machine.

Now i am just a navie, in 2010 it was Team Maybeline , 2011 i am navigating for Team AmadaExtreme.
Out of all the gear i had fitted i never regretted any of the mods, mmm maybe i would have prefered a single cab ute as it is less panel to worry about than the extra cab.
There are heaps more pics on our website under sponsored trucks and customer trucks if you want more closer pics of under and around the truck.
Any questions feel free to ask.

Hi mick,

I have a single cab GQ and it is just a little tight with a cage in it, that's the only thing.

I would like to have a bit more space behind the seat for a: the required 150mm distance between my knoggin and the cage and b: for a little bit of gear such as a small fridge or whatever. As you know all the gear has to go into boxes during the stage but some room for stuff would be great.

In retrospect, I would put in the time and effort to do a cut down for that little bit of room behind the seat. The tray, roof bars and sliders can cover the added panel.

Cheers,
Dave.

Sorry about the hijack, looks like people have stopped posting anyway.
Where abouts is the ('track'??) in the picts? I think I've seen it in a vid before. Wouldn't mind trying it, depending where it is.

Here is mine. You'll have to use your imagination a little. :D But I'll explain why I'm doing a few things.

Building it mostly for winch challenge comps.

GQ shorty chassis. (wanted to be able to turn tighter corners)
GU ute cab. (More room inside than GQ cab without extending it)
Extending the wheel base to 104-106 inches. (94 inches is too short and unstable)
Will run 37s to start with as most comps restrict tire size. (the comps I'm aiming for restrict to 37")
Ford 5lt V8 but will soon have an alloy ford 427cu (didn't want to go with the normal LS engines)
Will run auto box when I can build the adapter I need. (Auto is much easier on the drive train and much faster to change gears)
GU diffs Braced and triangulated links rear with flexy arm front. (I was going coil overs but have decided to retain the normal coils for now)
Custom interior and external bar work. (make it more functional and get rid of unwanted bits and pieces as well as tougher.)

So is your imagination working yet? :finger:

Hi Steven
Why would you want to run a crappy Ford when you can run an LSX more reliably and with more HP and torque to boot.
Probably cheaper as well.

I like to be a little different and my early background was building fords so I'm familiar with ford V8s and they are much cheaper to buy and build than an LSX and rev just as much and will put out just as much power if you build them right. For a stock motor though you'd be correct but my engine (well the second one at least) will be anything but stock. :D

I'll take a mould off it when I'm done. It'll be a few months.

Yea right; a stock ls1 with a cam and a good tune will easily do 500fwhp and the motor will set you back $1500 -3000 from a wreckers, what ford will do that?

My LSX blocked 427-7.0L has been an expensive exercise however it will easily do 700fwhp N/A but having said that an LS 408 cube aluminium or cast iron block will do 600fwhp N/A and cost a lot less than the LSX block. Build them for boost and the sky is the limit, plenty of 408s boosted doing 1000rwhp as daily drivers and the the LSX block will handle over 2500hp. In a 4x4 the ls1 is second to none and despite the critics saying that they lack torque; they have a shit load with just a mafless tune.

Any way Stephanie hope ya build goes well and good to see ya with the bug again. Hopefully one day when I learn to drive fast with one eye with out running over every tree and bush in my path I will give my gq some comp work, you will know its me in front of you by the bow tie badge on the back of the tray thats if you can see that far in front of you. heheheh

whats the specs on that lsx 427? ie cam etc.
id be realy happy if my 440 put out 550fwhp. i realise the ls is a much more refined engine but my 440 has small port raised runner heads 10.5 comp and will be running efi. and personally i think my cam will probably be a bit over the top for offroading.
id be interested to see what revs you are making that power at, the max torque and if possible a dyno sheet to see the curve.
whats plans for the rest of the driveline

You're pretty confident. Have you seen the new Roushe ford engines? Or the World Industries Man 'O War alloy ford block? A little more research would do you well. The Speedway guys are starting to run ford blocks now because there is more backing behind them in the states now and they are starting to develop again.

There is no way that I'd be able to see the bowtie badge on the back of your truck in my rear view mirror unless you've spun and I bet you're the kind of bogan that would put a chev badge on a holden too. :finger:
