Hi All,
I have a 92 model 80 series and on a recent trip i went down a rut and drove thru it, When i stopped at the top of the hill i noticed my steering wheel was 90 degree out like it had rotated anti clockwise 90 degree but wheels were straight.
I have checked everything and can not see any stripped splines wear or anything.
i have reset the wheel straight again but am a bit scared to do 100k down the road in case i loose steering.

Any idea's people has this happened to anyone ?

Cheers,

check the sector shaft. this is the shaft coming out of the bottom of the steering box, they twist easily and can break

have a look at this thread

Thanks for replies,
No visual sign of an issue with the sector shaft spline but i will rip it apart just to be safe and check the link under the dash as the thread link you posted stated.
I take my kids with me off roading and want all to be spot on for safety reasons.
To compound the issue i bought the car written of some tie ago and the front left wheel had been ripped of the swivel housing so the whole front diff ect has been replaced but im paranoid of what caused them to stack it and break it like it was plus damage further up the steering components.

Cheers,
