Any one recently or not so recently purchased a part time kit and lokka for the front of their 80,
considering getting one myself, what brand did you get, how much did it cost
and what can you say about them ie, good bad etc

Put a part time kit in mine back in july. Got a set of aisin hubs off a lux an just bought the transfer case part off 4wd systems. Is a bit of fun in wet as back end steps out alot easier, what is your reason for going part time?

the car will become my daily driver, i currently have 3 car rego's and 2 bike rego's and need to get rid of 1 so i can buy another bike for my wife.
im looking to make the car a bit nicer to drive, reduce backlash etc. plus want front locker.

Front and rear diffs are different, front lokka wont fit in rear...

I have fairly recently fitted a part time kit in my 80, personally i don't like it, the cars isn't as stable on the road, it wanders more, when you take off the front end rises up and then jumps back down when you clutch in, something it never used to do in 4wd, i really do dislike the way it drives, feels loose/soft, some might like that feeling but not me, not with my suspension setup anyway, my shocks might be a bit soft now for it anyway which is exaggerating my effects. The only reason i drive around in 2wd still is because my front uni is rooted right now and grinds constantly at any speed over about 30 kmph, that said the 2wd eliminated my grinds at 80 and 100kms but i prefered the way the car drove and felt in 4wd but i do appreciate the lack of grinding at certain speeds around town.

Hi Mado,
I don't have part time 4wd in my 80series but have converted it to 2 wheel drive by fitting free wheeling hubs & removed the front shaft them locked the centre diff in full time, it appears to have more power & uses less fuel & quiter I don't know if it was front diff or centre diff but something had a noise in it but has gone now.
Check out Marks 4wd he has what appears to be a engineering shop & he supplies every thing in the kits. marks4wd.com
I was under the impression that 80series had lsd diffs fitted to the rear

Thanks
Mrfras

You should check the tie rod ends, suspension bushes and wheel alignment. part timing it should actually make it feel more connected to the road.

Not much you can do about the front end jumping, other than fitting harder shocks. But then you compromise ride quality.

The best advice is to drop the front drive shaft and run it in 2wd for a week if you're contemplating a part time kit. Also don't expect any fuel savings like they all claim.

ive had mine in for close to two years love it no more backlash witch the fulltime suffer with it's a lockright cost was 960 posted to newy thats the part time kit and locker took day and a half to do i can now drive up the bush in two wheel drive lowrange witch is good on very bumpy tracks where 4 wheel drive is not needed . and as for front locker being a pain i can turn it on and off when i like only once i had to disangage one side and i was on a side of a hill in the mud she didnt wont to turn and on the tar in two wheel in run mine locked in they ratchet a small clicking noise id go for it the habs that come with it aint the best though better getting some off a lux :D
