Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I put a second hand gearbox in a NH pajero and the reverse lights were stuck on when it was all connected back up. I removed the fuse to turn the lights off for now. Seems to me that the switch may be stuck on. I have another one to swap and see if that fixes it.

There looks to be a few switches on the gearbox, does anyone know which one it is?

Best of luck with this one... Sorry - I don't have the answer, but my NL Manual has a stuffed reverse light switch and no-on here could or would tell me how to get access to it. I'll watch this thread and see if you have any better luck. By the way, is it auto or manual?

If you haven't found out which switch it is, then replace the fuse and remove the wires from each switch till the lights go out, thats to say, with someone watching while your doing it, prosese of elimination really, OK.

My problem is that the reversing lights are stuck on - but at what appears to be reduced voltage. I assume that there must be some crap in the switch contacts and this is allowing some limited current to pass through. When I was actually in reverse gear, they came on fully. Incidentally, they are by far the best reversing lights I have ever seen on a vehicle.

I eventually isolated the lights themselves with a switch, so when I need the reversing lights, I can turn them on manually. This is OK, but the lights do not show up when you are reversing unless I actually turn them on. This means that there is no indication to others that I am in reverse gear eg backingout of a parking lot.

I actually tried to lower the gearbox by unbolting the rear mounts, but still could not get to the switch. I assume that it is somewhere on the gearbox, but as yet I have not been able to find it.

I note with regret that you have not had any more success with the reversing light switch than I did. For what it is worth, I believe that the connector for the switch is located up towards the front of the transmission tunnel, somewhere near the oxygen sensor in teh exhaust. There is a connector and plug there and the flyleads seem to go back to about the location of the gearbox. As for getting access to the switch itself, I have tried and short of completely removing the gearbox and transfer case, I cannot see any way of getting to it.

If anyone has actually accessed their reversing linght switch, please let me know how it was done....
