Best 4wd to buy??

Hey Guys,
I currently have a 1990 Turbo Diesel 80 series which I rebuilt the motor, turbo and put a new exhaust etc about 15,000k's ago. I am looking at selling it to buy a 06 GU Coil Cab Ute. A mate of mine was saying that the 80's are one of the best 4bys when it comes to flexing and that I would be silly to sell it and buy a GU Ute as they aren't as good off road. My idea is that the 80 is getting on in age and I should really sell it before I need to respray it because the paint is starting to go to shit. Anyway if anyone has any ideas on the matter I'd love to hear some ideas! Let me know what you think the best 4by would be to buy? I've had an 80, 75, P38 Rangie and D1 Disco V8 and they were all good cars!
Cheers

Hey sorry for the vague posting..
Looking for something that I can go camping in and use as a weekend warrior. I wanna slowly build it up so I can go up to the cape in it. I will probably put a 3/4 inch lift in it and run 35's on it.

Agree with others, keep it .... there are good reasons they are still sought a after vehicle and why you still can't buy/find a good TD version under 10k for a 15+ year old vehicle.
If you want a change maybe upgading to a 105 series or the Patrol you suggest if you need a ute.

If you want the patrol get the patrol.
If you want to keep the 80 keep the 80.
Both can be built into any manner of tourer or offroad weapon.
I understand the appeal of something newer/different.
I understand the appeal of sticking with a car you know.
Both are valid so I think it comes down to what you want to drive.
Out of the box a cruiser front end will out flex a patrol - hasnt stopped my patrol getting any where ive pointed it.
Out of the box a patrol rear lsd walks all over an 80's.
This type of trading off between the 2 models can go on for ever so follow your gut feeling both are great cars.
btw can i come to the cape

Yeah I think I'll end up keeping it. I might have a look through the auctions for a 105 series that's had some water damage due to all these floods and maybe do a motor transplant from my 80 to it. I would prefer to put a 1HD-FTE in a 105 rather than the 1HD-T that I have in my 80 as it is a newer motor but since I've just rebuilt the 1HD-T then I figure it should be sweet. Also means I don't have to worry about all the wiring the FTE has. Will see what happens. Might get a better way to go.. Let me know what you think!

I would love to get a 105 with an 1HD-FTE. But unfortunatly they don't come out of the box like that, and I have none of the pieces to build one :'(.
I'm torn as to sell my 80 and go 105, purely as mine is starting to get those maintenance niggles, and a newer car with less kms sounds like a good idea. Out of interest can anyone tell me what sort of noticable power differences there are between a 1FZ and a 1HD-T, 1HD-FT, 1HD-FTE? I'm very keen on going back to the diesel but dont want to loose too much power (last car was an HJ60 2H+turbo, and the 1FZ easy wins). However The cost of a good post 1993 or even better 1995 low km TD 80 + intercooler setup, or a nice 105 1HZ + 1HD-FTE means i'll be keeping the old guzzling 1FZ. Has anyone had similar thoughts? Sorry about Hi-jacking the thread.
