hello all, just looking for anyone who has fitted a ase front mount intercooler to their gu 4.2 diesel patrols and what sort of power gains, reduced egts they got from fitting the kit. iv got a 4.2 ute with no cooler, 3 inch exhaust. running 11 pound boost making 92 kws on 35s. so anyone who has fitted 1 let me know. thanks

Front mount kits are awesome for high speed usage. Anything below 90kph a good water to air cooler will kill them for temps, but above that the front mount will start to catch up.
The real benefit to them is they are much much cheaper to buy/install.
Down side is, most kits run the charge pipe below the front cross member, making them very prone to damage while off road.
If you manage to bend/break/dislodge the charge pipe, you will have at best no power due to loss of boost.
At worst an engine with bent rods etc... due to water ingestion if you knock it off on a rock during a creek crossing.

all the pipes seem to tuck up nicely between crossmembers and rails

I suppose if you're after highway performance that kit might suit you.
In my opinion, for that sort of money I'd get a nice top mount kit.
For under a grand you can get a top mount kit including scoop, thermo fan and brackets, hoses etc.
Again, this is only my opinion, a front mount might suit you better.

yeah i been lookin at top/ front mount kits 4 6 months now, i like the cross country top mount but dont like either scoop setup, i like the ase kit coz its pretty straight forward. no cutting grills etc. not looking for huge power gains, mayb another 15rwkw, and to give the old girl some cooler air. what top mount kits are around for $1000 aj?? r there some i missed?

Do the engine a big favor and improve on inlet manifold design.
Even with a relatively simple plenum design, I normally see around 1.5:2 Parts difference in the AFR by letting all the cylinders breath.
Wont make you tons more power straight up, but it does help stop cylinders 1&6 running so much hotter than the rest.

Jemmos, google "big o 4x4" they have a nice kit around the $800 mark.
