Hello everybody, I have been posting in the Daihatsu section for some months, now I am thinking about buying a Toyota!
I have found two cars, and I need your opinion about which one is better.

The first is a 1993 4door Toyota Hilux with the 2L engine code, the other is a 1989 Toyota 4-runner with the 22R engine.
Both have solid axles (front/rear). Hilux is in a better condition generally but 1/3 of the price more expencive.

I want it for a second car ( I still got the Roza) mostly for weekend off-roading/camping etc to drive it where a car with IFS cant really suite me and I like it because both can be easily modifyed with aftermarket stuff and both have a lot of space to carry stuff.....

Wich one is better?

Thank you and sorry if my english is not that good....

My old 4runner had the 22R, and from my experience only, they arent a very strong engine, I went through 2 recoed engines in under a year, they were weel maintained, but had head gasket problems.
There was a local engine shop, that machined their own heads for these engines, thats how much it was known to happen.

My current Lux, has the 2L engine, its a 2.4lt diesel, not very powerful at all, but really torquey down low, loves climbing in low range, but hates hilss on the road.
From memory, the 2.4d has 4.5 diff ratios, and mine have no dramas turning 35s everyday, except for anytime theres a hill.

My preference would be for the dual cab Lux, as Im slightly biased towards them, but both are good for kids, easy to get little ones in/out of their baby seats, and depending on how high you go, easy enough for kids to climb in too.

Just remember, the leaf springs are not made for comfort.
