hey all,

i have a 1988 hilux with a 4y petrol motor in it, so far its served me well but with the recent floods and creek crossings it has proven to be not as useful as a diesel could be.

Now i did originally want to do a 3rz conversion but after having my 4y nearly cut out on a few creek crossings it looks like it wont be as reliable as i need.

My main question is what is the best bang for buck diesel swap into a hilux,
i know they cost a fair bit to repair so im considering learning a bit about them and possibly doing a rebuild on the one i want to install.

I need for it to be:

More powerful than the 4y

Better fuel consumption than the 4y

and have the conversion to come to the same price of a 3rz ( about 5k )

all thoughts and opinnions would be appreciated thanks.

So it turns out I can get a 3L diesel for about 1500 and I've heard that the 2L-T manifold bolts onto the 3L block making for a fairly cheap conversion at $2000 on a Toyota surf that originally had the 2LT motor.

Now seeing as I'm going from petrol to diesel what is involved with fuel lines and tanks etc??

Is the 2L-T turbo and manifold a direct bolt on job and what mods are needed.

Is this turbo setup worthy or is there something better for similar money.

What gearbox and engine mounts do you use for this conversion??

Is a bodylift needed, as I have a 2" lift but want to remove it.
