it only started the other day. any ideas?

Re: bad vibration through steering wheel.
In the rear drive shaft between the transmission and rear axle.. There is a support bearing in there for the two piece drive shaft.. If they get out of whack, which isn't an uncommon fault, the shaft will vibrate and shake the cabin.. Mine does it, and I feel it through the steering wheel at low speed, but then it goes away as I get faster.. Also check your slip joints and unis for play when youre in there..

ahh i see, is it expensive/easy to replace if i were to use a manual? would i need any specialised tools ?

Re: bad vibration through steering wheel.
I'm not sure it would be the center bearing if it's only vibrating the dash and the steering wheel. I don't have a better answer really but I would be looking at your steering and front brakes somewhere
Edit, the center bearing is the bearing joining the two piece rear driveshaft.
