Hi guys / girls (for PC reasons
),
well I have been a member of outerlimits for a number of years and I finally have a question that I cant seem to find the answer on and I was hoping that one of the many guru's on here could at least point me in the right direction.
I have a 2006 Landcruiser factory turbo diesel. Manual gearbox. I am toying with the idea for converting it to an auto for a something to do project.. Yes I know there are porbably many better projects one could take on and yes I know I could just sell my truck and get an auto one but that defeats the purpose.
So I guess my question first question is can it be done?? and yes I know it can be but how hard is it going to be?
Has anyone done this before that could give me some advice on things to take in to account and what bits need replacing?
Asside from the obvious parts being transmission and trim, is a different BCM required are there additional wiring harnases required or are they already there??
Any info would be great.
Michael

alot of rewiring and new computers.
removing clutch assemblies, bellhousing swap.
cross member changes, possible transfer depening on 4wd selection,
big big job to undertake on your own if you havent got experience with these motors.
where abouts are you located

I wouldn't rule out the idea of selling it. They are rare and you could charge 10 grand more for it, and people will come from the otherside of the country to buy it.
Then you could by an auto TD with alot less KMs, or a similar one and load up on all the fun bits.

If you want to keep it simple, look for an early a440 trans from a 60, and early 80 series diesels. Can bolt straight up to the 1hdt-fte, and it is a full hydraulic transmission. So no electrics to worry about. Only problem might be the shifter. It's a 7 position mechanical linkage on the a440, but on the 100 series, it might be fully electric. Some fab may be required but I guess that is to be expected. The tailshafts may be different lengths, as may be the crossmember position.

Think you'll find its the other way-5sp auto is worth more than the manual as its such a smooth and reliable unit.
I'd sell it and get the auto-an A750F is going to cost you a bomb, if you put anything else in it'll be worth sh+t.

if your going to that expense of a doing the auto u wouldnt put the 60 box in.
you would put the 5 speed as it would mate up easier. be more factory standard
and that 5 speed auto is one hell of a box to drive with.

you would be best off selling your engine package
and getting a 100series engine package. That way you've got the extra power that came with the 100series, and the computer controls both the 5 speed auto and engine.
I am assuming you have a ute or a 76 series or something? Since its a manual and the 100 does not come with a TD manual option.

It sure did come with a manual option on the HDJ100. But they seem to have a lesser value than the 5sp auto.
AFAIK the utes didnt have an auto option with either 1HZ or 1HD-FTE.
also my mistake though-I had assumed crikey was talking about a 100, but he didnt say, nor has he reappeared to elaborate

Dont bother, just buy a new one.
you will need a new computor and half the wireing loom, these items are worth more than the box alone(involves romoving the dash as well)
a centre consol, cluster, pedal assembly, and much more
the bolt holes for the gear box cross member wont line up, you will need new tail shafts, have to cut the floor pan.
you also need to find auto trans lines, auto trans cooler.
or you could sell your car and buy one the same but auto for no change over cost if you play your cards right
