Oil leak, probably rear main seal?

Folks,
I've got a leak out bottom of the bellhousing on my 3.5 pajero. Presume this is probably rear main seal? It's a steady drip when the vehicle is running, and does seem to be getting worse... Does keep the underside of the truck quite rust-free though!

I'm getting a little tired of topping up the oil. So, how bad is it to change this seal? Gbox out? Engine out?

Cheers,
Paul

Is the oil black, or at least the same colour as the engine? The reason for asking is that it could also be from the gearbox. By the fact that you are having to top up the engine, it probably is engine oil.

Another place for oil leaks is the rear of the tappet covers. I had a leak for the R side, and it took forever to find it. It was dripping down onto the exhaust and therefore not mucking the underside very much. When I did, it was so obvious, and very easy to fix - a 10 mm spanner, 2 bolts and the end cap slides out. New O ring and put it all back together.

if it is the rear main then yes, its gear box out.
when you do this, leave your torque converter in your gear box (unbolt it off the ring gear b4 u remove the box)
