Hello all I have just brought a Sierra with the vitara 1.6 motor. It's takes a while to start then when it starts to fire, you gotta keep the revs up or it will stall and it blows a heap of unburnt fuel smoke. Anybody have any ideas??? Cheers

Sounds like a MAF / throttle body problem. Do you have a check engine light wired in? Do you have a diag plug?

Check the diagnostic codes as Dave said. Possibly it could be the temp sensor being faulty, telling the car its in cold start (possibly below zero) all the time. Even if you dont get a code, if you cant resolve teh problem probe the wiring with a multimeter and check the values against the factory manual.

Is it an EFI motor? That's not clear from the post?
Steve.

Is the check engine light working? Does it turn on when you first start the engine? Does it flash is it on all the time?
Find your computer and the diag plug should be near it. It may have a little black plastic cover on it. It is only about 15-20mm square.
The temp sensor can be in a few different places depending on what engine you have and who put it in. Normally they are at the back of the engine in the thermostat housing. But as I said I have seen them in a few crazy places.
