LN106 Rear Brake Disc Conversion (Same as LCII Brakes?)

Post by BabyGodzillaGTi-R »

Hi there, did a search and surprisingly some of the posts are dead links (probably from the old forum).
Also some of the mods involves parts that are not so easily available back home in Malaysia while searching through the forum.

Basically i'm getting sick of my brake shoe getting worn everytime i go offroading or when there's lots of mud involve.
Hence i was wondering what's probably the easiest way to convert the rear drums to discs (unless there is a better alternative where i can still retain the standard rear drum brakes).

Any idea if there is a factory rear disc setup from Toyota that would be pretty much bolt on?
How about Land Cruiser II (I think it's a LJ79 or a 4 door version of a Bundera with coils all round) rear disc brakes? You think it would bolt on to the Hilux?

thanks in advance.

Ok will do.
However were there any Hilux that came with rear discs from the factory?

AFAIK no Hilux is Disc rear, Currnet ones are still drum rear.

Disk rear converison is very common.
Just buy a RockToy kit and done.
I think Bundera are Drum rear aswell. I was under on 2 on the weekend and BOTH have Rocktoy kit's as they were drums factory. Maybe they are early modles tho

Well you could try using pajero discs and calipers...but you wont be too impressed with them.

You would be better off using lc2 rears discs and calipers.

Oh and while you are doig that, with your favourite mechanic, you may as well do those diff ratios which you have been on about for months on end..HINT HINT. :D :D

Do the LC2's have the drum hand brake inside the rotor for the rear disc brakes same as the 80 & 100 series ??

i.e. Does the hand brake work through the disc caliper ?

Another option is a prado diff. Not quite bolt on but allows you to use the standard centre from the lux, adds a fair bit of width too. It uses the drum handbrake setup inside the disc which is easily modded to use the standard handbrake cable. Having said all that, I haven't done the install yet, but give me a few weeks. And obviously prados are coil suspension, so there's new mounts to make or coil it

i currently run subaru discs and calipers on the rear of my ln106 single cab lux and im very pleased on how it pulls up my 35s now. They are 'l' series subaru front calipers and discs with the hand brake cable in them, only thing u have to do is machine your nub face down in dia as the inside of the subaru disc is smaller than lux hub diameter

hey mate i bout to do rear conversion. running L series calipers and rear discs off a y60 patrol. they slip staight on. just need a ring to press onto the axle to suit the disc centre. n the caliper gets a slight grind to stop rotor hitting em. n replacing booster and master cyl with ones off a 80series cruiser. getting roctoy brakets. put the right caliper on the left side n vice versa and the hand brake lever on the caliper lines up with the standard lux handbrake cable.
