Do battery gauges use much power?

I want to install a battery gauge to monitor a deep cycle battery and want to know if its ok to leave it permanently ON.

Do they use much power to leave on?

The battery is connected to a solar panel which is constantly on, not an alternator, and is used only on camp trips every month or so.

Thanks
Mike

They probably use very little, and I guess it would probably be fine to leave one hooked up.

But if it were me, I would put a little pushbutton with it that you can just press whenever you want to read the gauge.

I left it connected for approx 24 hrs and the gauge felt slightly warm to touch, so ive connected a push button.

I was trying to be lazy and bypass the installation and the 'effort' of pushing a button, but not worth NOT doing it.
