Hi, is there a way that the sunroof in a 1990 4runner can be opened as there is something stripped (motor runs with the switch)

The drive cables (2) have broken is my guess.
On a Surf with factory moon roof, there is a flap door that drops down, insert flat screw driver into hole and turn. This may not help a lot if the cabels are broken tho.

Plastic trim around the glass that must be removed is VERY brittle and held tight with clips, I had to buy 1 left & 1 right to replace them from Toyota, you might get lucky if your careful tho.
Cables are available from Toyota, tho there are 2 different types available so make sure you get the correct ones.
BTW they were not cheap when I replaced mine .... around $400 pair.

Part # in link below.

I have unbolted the drive motor and its ok, the part that it drives is broken or has just slipped back to one side.
can't seem to move the roof by hand (so far) will have another go at it tomorrow.
thanks for the info

Found out how to open the roof by hand, on the side almost all the way at the back there are 2 clips one each side, there should be a pin sticking out just hold the roof up to take pressure of the clips and push the pins towards the back.
looks to be one of the cables has broken but will look at it at a later time after i get it on the road.
