Gday all,

Just got quoted $1800 to rebuild my Vit motor. I reckon this is a bit heavy so what prices would you guys and gals consider fair for that sort of work?

Work doesn't allow me time to do the work myself :?

Still waiting for replies from various companies about replacement motor prices.

Plan is to rebuild / replace then turbo or supercharge

Motor has 150,000 km on it and runs all right at the moment although misses a bit and is down a little on power.

$1800 seems pretty reasonable for a quality rebuild, however, to build the motor to reliably run enough boost to make it worthwhile will require quite a few different parts, so why build it twice?

In any case, if it is not currently an EFI motor, turbo/supercharging it properly will be at least a $5K job IMHO, so the $1800 rebuild is the least of your problems. Even if it is EFI, it will need a new computer, injectors etc and a heap of work to get it right.

What area you live in?

If you live in melboure dude, Pm me and I'll put you in touch with someone that can do way, way better than $1800, even if you were gonna rebuild it, put it this way, I bought a vit multi-point efi engine with 35,000k on the clock with dash, loom etc... for $1850 So realistically, you're being stooged dude
Steve's right though, if you're gonna supercharge the sucka, why not just get one s/h and rebuild it for that application anywayz, you're gonna need to modify the majority of the motor to suit. Can I ask why you're supercharging or turbo-charging a standard Vitara? Are you thinking of running bigger tyres or you lookin' for street cred? :D

Street cred ! :D

Ummm, not with the dents and stuffed panels on it ;)

Sold the Patrol but still have my 4.4m Barra boat, so looking at ways to make it tow better.

Vit still pulls along alright, but hills and head winds kill it

I understand that you need to build the motor to suit the application, ie turbo / SC but that $1800 was just a standard rebuild ( its EFI )

Still undecided as to which road to take, turbo / SC would be good but may reflect on reliability

I'll collect all the price info and expert opinion from you guys and then make a decision.

"Time spent in recon is never wasted" heard this in a movie somewhere

Thanks raqmup you have PM :D

Thanks for the info raqmup. Just spoke to them. Might have found the way to go.

Turbo and S/C have possibly been shelved for reliability ;)

Time will tell
