Sensational to drive but that's about all I know....
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

the 5 speed auto is an awsome box to drive with and even go 4wding with. throw a cooler on it for extra insurance and you wont have an issue.
Re: 100 series 1hdfte auto or manual?
If you try and put too much power through them, like if you chip it and exhaust it you Must do valve body mods otherwise it will fail in time if towing heavy shit.popeyehj60 wrote:the 5 speed auto is an awsome box to drive with and even go 4wding with. throw a cooler on it for extra insurance and you wont have an issue.

glad i got the auto, drove a mates manual and as soon as you put the cluch and take your foot off the accelerator you were off boost straight away and it felt really slow. The autos have unbelievable down hill breaking in 1st, 2nd starts to run away though.

Thanks for the reply's fellas, i will consider the auto now.
No big plans for this girl suspension wise. Probably just upgrade the turbo, chip and exhaust.

Re: 100 series 1hdfte auto or manual?
That probably depends on your turbo and state of tune i'm guessing. If you're off the throttle chances are you aren't wanting boost at that point in time anyway aren't you.GQ4.8coilcab wrote:glad i got the auto, drove a mates manual and as soon as you put the cluch and take your foot off the accelerator you were off boost straight away and it felt really slow. My 1HZ turbo does lose the boost when you're off throttle but the very moment it's back on throttle the boost is almost instantaneous. all the way from idle to 4000RPM. But mine is running somewhat warmed up and wound up to buggery.

Re: 100 series 1hdfte auto or manual?
I drove both before I bought and even though I love driving a manual the 5 speed auto wins hands down, great economy too, towing my 1.5t campervan we managed 11.6l to 100km's last trip and all it's got is a 3" zorst no chip so I'm hoping to improve it with the chip in the future. Driving around town the auto seems very responsive and the engine braking is a lot better than I thought it would be, I spoke to a few automatic repair shops before I bought and they all said that if you look after the auto it will last for quite a while.
Re: 100 series 1hdfte auto or manual?
I hunted down and bought a manual TD100- Prefer to be 100% in control of what bloody gear the truck is in (after a BIG moment in an auto D4D hilux that tried to kill us!)
Only thing the manual has going against it is that your reving a lot harder at 100kph- 2400rpm vs 1900 odd in the auto.
Mines bog stock engine wise (stock exhaust, no chip, stock cooler, stock turbo) and ive never had it feel like it was caught off boost.
