80 series H151f upgrade

Post by TheBigBoy »

Gday guys. Its time to start doing something about my noisy box (the 1 in my truck ;)). I saw a link ages ago to someone who had a longer main meshing cog for cruiser. Almost twice the mesh of a normal cog. Does that make sense. I cannot find it anymore. Anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Haven't heard of anything like that for the 80 series. Might make more sense on the 60 series 5 speed, but still haven't heard of an aftermarket fix for those boxes. Toyota supposedly fixed it in the last lot of boxes.

Only problems with the early h150/151 is the 2nd gear. mind you it's not always the synchro, it can be a worn 2nd gear, and sometimes worn main shaft. Usually that only happens when the box is abused such as forcing it into second, or trying to 'float' it into second without the clutch. Usually you see the later on truck boxes driven by numpties.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

It was a while ago. Something about the main shaft only meshing 30mm. And the upgrade meshing almost 60mm. Could have been another model I was thinking of. I go through so many 4x4's.

Also anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for this box from?
