i have to have the body lift in my single cab hilux approved by qld dot for my ute to be registered, it has passed a rwc the only thing holding me up from obtaining the rwc certificate. What im asking is what is the process for obtaining an approval from qld dot?
- papers?
- does it cost anything?
- how long does it take?
- is it a pain?
I have never been through this before so im just asking to get an idea of what ive gotta do tomorrow as im heading straight to dot to sort this all out..
Regards, shae

First, Submit an application to install your body lift.
Once you gain approval, install your body lift, and then book an inspection with QLD transport (pay fee)
They will inspect your car (not just the body lift) and sign off that the body lift has been done in accordance with thier modification guidlines, and issue you with a document stating your body lift is approved.

I would contact your DOT office you are going to and get the officers name that tells you what to do as there has been so many different reports of what DOT have been doing lately. ( actually for a couple of years now )
What was stated is correct but we constantly get reports that -
one day alloy body blocks are illegal
one day poly body blocks are illegal
one day steering shaft extensions are allegal
one day any vehicle with air bags cannot fit a body lift
one day you can approve vehicles with a body lift kit if it has air bags
its always changing week to week.
One employee at work just last week got told from the North coast dot that they will not approve his body lift on his Landcruiser and an engineer must approve it --WTF is that ? since when?
If any DOT officers are reading this post i am sure a lot of people would like an answer how it is possible to change the rules or give false and misleading information out to the public ?

thanks for the replies guys, tomorrow i will be heading straight to DOT here on sunny coast and will speak with an inspector or whoever is to approve the lift. the thing is that the blocks are already fitted as in thats how i got the hilux and it has been previously registered with the blocks fitted so i cant see why ive gotta go through this trouble of getting an approval...
but i its gotta be done i guess...what a stuff around this is....i suppose its gonna be a week or so before i get a reply to say its approved or not...
it'd be alot better if someone from dot could just check it out without having to send paperwork away and waiting for it to return or whatever...

What are the chances that it's already been approved but you just didn't get given the cert by the previous owner? Any chance of contacting them? Qld transport will have records if this is the case and if not, may be interested in how it passed a Safety Inspection without approval.

ok, turns out i have to fill out the form for this mod: Vehicle modification application...
filled it out, stating that my hilux is fitted with 50mm nylon blocks with high tensile bolts used to fasten them in.
mail that form to brisbane, wait for it to be sent back with an approval stamp or something then i take that form, the rwc and the vehicle to QLD DOT inspection center to be inspected and hopefully passed....
just a waiting game now...
