couple of questions

firstly can i ask where are the recovery points on the front and rear of a feroza ?
i had a look at the front and there are a couple of places for the shackles to fit
which one do i use ?
and on the rear i cant find any place to put them other then the places for shackles on the tow bar, but i dont think they look strong enough.

also tommorow im getting my extracotrs put on . i was thinking of asking him to check the timing and valve clearances for me.
are these hard jobs for a mechanic to do ? whats a rough gues at what they would charge to check and adjust those ?
also what timing should i set it at to take advantage of shell optimax ? how much does it have to be advanced ?

think there all the questions floating around in my head for now.

There are two hooks on the front- the one on the driver's side is the recovery point and if you look closely a lot stronger than the other.

On the back Ferozas came out standard with a recovery hook (or rather loop) where the tow bar bolts onto. By the sound of it you've got the tow bar and the previous owner probably threw out the recovery point that bolted on there.... If you've got a receiver type hitch then (from what I've read) the best practice is to remove the hitch and use the the retainer pin for your recovery point. NEVER use the towball to snatch off! If you don't use the towbar take it off and try to find the bolt on loop from a wrecker (a GQ Patrol one would probably go close to fitting ;) )

It shouldn't cost much to get the valve clearances adjusted and timing checked. I wouldn't recommend advancing the timing beyond the factory recommended 3 degrees BTDC as the Feroza engine is prone to detonation (mine will do it at 2 degrees running BP Ultimate 98 octane).

Good advice

(a GQ Patrol one would probably go close to fitting ;) )

I think it might fit as well.

ill have a closer look at the rear tommorow when there is some light.

when you say it wont cost much to get them adjusted thats like ? $50 ?
will i see much of an improvement
when i bought the car the bloke said the timing had been adjusted to use shell optimax ... does that make sense to any of you ?

Depends on the mechanic as to the $$$$. A competent mechanic should be easily able to do both in around 1/2 hr.

What the guy said probably means the timing has been advanced further. If you don't know what detonation or pinging sounds like then don't go advancing it- it could work out very expensive!

is valve clearances going to effect economy/running much ?
anything else i should get checked

Get them done if you don't know when they were last done. Particularly if your engines sounds "rattly" in the top end. Mine sounded like a new engine after having them adjusted. :D

It can affect the engine power and possibly could cause damage to the valve train if the gaps were too large (my opinion only- I couldn't see it helping the life of your engine if they're way out!)

You won't need a D or bow shackle for the front recovery point. Just slip the snatch strap through the hook :D
As for a recovery point for the rear, I've got a hayman reece towbar. I remove the towball and fit a D/Bow shackle through the hole for the towball ;)

Just my 2 cents worth
