standard 40 steering never came with a collapsible shaft. They came in with the 60's and 75's that have the box on the front chassis rail.
With the 40's box mounted up near the firewall there is no way to get a steering column that collapses.
When doing a 60 series steering conversion and putting a box down on the chassis rail you use a collapsibly intermediate shaft (From firewall to steering box) from a 75 series.

i dont know if a v8 interferes with the 40 steering box in the stock location but if it doesnt i still think you don't need a collapsible shaft.

Where you at? Never heard of this requirement before. As above. I can't see any way of fitting a colapsible section of column to the stock 40 column without going custom. All you have to work with is inside the column tube (from steering wheel to firewall) and then 4 inches or so from firewall to box.

Be good to hear from any one of the many NSW 40 owners on here with V8 conversions.
Like I said, I can't see any way of putting a colapsible section into a stock 40 column. With 60 steer it's part and parcel (60 steer is so much better than 40 steer anyway so it's not a wasted exercise at all).

ah well all sorted i rang the engineer and was told that anything under a 45% ncrease for this beast does not require a colapseable column which is different to what he told me before but i am not going to argue
