who has them. mines crap so far only makes 6psi wastegate works at 10 but has never opened.wound fuel up to point of black soot and 400'c egts cruising. sounds like the dsr 430 turbo was designed for a twin cam petrol race car and not a 4.2 diesel. series 2 4.2d N/A goes better.
any thoughts

turbo is too big for these motors you need somthing around a ar.50 rear housing
doesit have a front mount if it does put a water to air so the your intake piping is shorter
and get your injector pump done with a boost compensator and a 11 or 12 mm rotor that will cost bout 3g to get done but

Personally I wouldnt bother with building custom pumps unless your wanting to run more than 14-15psi. Its a waist of money. Your standard pump, if in good condition should keep up with that. Also I believe fuel or boost compensator's are not needed. All it does is stops from fueling up down low. If its tuned right EGT's shouldn't b a massive concern and a bit of soot when you fly off thru the bush looks fat!!
I think the shorter air track with a water to air cooler will help no end and make for more responsive throttle. (if running a cooler)
Sounds like a turbo problem.

If you put the exact details (all the numbers/tags) from the turbo here and your motor details, one of the guys who is familiar with matching may be able to give you some info... though it still depends on what you want your particular vehicle to do.... ie power down low or up high etc etc....
If this is a kit, I would suspect something else may be wrong like a leak in boost piping perhaps....

between my compressor housing and inlet there are 2 silicone joiners and 4 clamps. i would know if i has popped off a pipe. and my intake is sealed

Sounds to me like youve answered you own question, but as others have stated you need to find out the ACTUAL specs of said turbo and we can advise you further.

I was thinking of buying one of these kits. Might not now though.
It says on the website it's supposed to make 17psi by 2200rpm.
"Compressor Trim: 48 Inducer 53mm, exducer 76.5mm Exhaust side: T3 size flange. 0.58AR turbine housing. Turbine wheel Exducer 48mm, Inducer 64.5mm." -

Here's a video of someone running it -

Mate, sounds like a turbo problem, I have a GT35 with a .70 on my td42. Not ideal I know, but I got it very cheap, spools nicely from 1800 rpm and is easily boosting at 13 psi at 3000rpm through a massive front mount ic, standard pump wound up 1/4 turn. Cheers.

i have this kit on my shorty, good bang for buck really, mine makes over 10 pound, but have added a turbosmart boost tee, sounds like u have a boost leak

how do you know the waste gate isnt opening?
where are you taking your boost reading from?
i would be tempted to fit a boost tee before you do anything and try wind it up some what, see what happens

or better yet, just block the line, so the wastegate will stay shut, and see what it does...

SOLVED!!! i take it back!!! All of it!!!! ages ago i blocked off the wastegate and its made 7 max have since wound up fuel more and blocked it off now makes 13. so yeah will trail no wastegate till i tee it.

that still seems pretty poor that you have to block off the waster gate and it only makes 13psi. at what revs does it make 13psi by?

Mate all that tells you is you are controlling boost with fuel which is not the desired outcome, it will be lasy into boost and not hold well like that! The turbine drive energy must be absolute junk I'd your using fuel to control boost with a blocked wastgate.

they have obviosly dynod this kit. mine comes on 1200 at like 2psi and makes 5 by 1800 and makes 13 by 2200 with my current fuel. going off my pre turbo egt's i have heaps of headroom now. i have found that i have wound my fuel up more than the 1/4 turn everyone says you should. best way is to street tune watch left mirror for soot and your egts and you should get it pretty good on big hills.
long story short if you want to give your td42 a kick up the ass for around 2 grand... this is it.
zd30 airbox $160
oil pressure, egt & boost (petrol type) guages with alarms off ebay $300ish
pirtek hose $200
threaded socket into sump $3
turbo and manifold to your door $1400
silicone bends and ally tube $180
sump and exhaust gasket $70
i can get hold of pics if needed

the quarter turn is for people still N/A
im about 2 full turns up from where my pump was set with Egt's still good.

mine makes 13psi with the tee in the actuator hose, dont know how much fuel iv screwed up as cover was off pump, just tuned it to pyro, tickles 550 on my road which is 6 kms of steep climbing, i do think the turbo is to big, but i do like high rpms really

you stupid you need to feed the engine fuel to make boost.. your not controlling boost with fuel you are making it.. why do you think all the big hp trucks put more fuel in and blow fuck loads of black smoke you cant just turn the boost up and make power.. the only thing that controlls a diesel is fuel hence more of it more power more boost...
this happens to garrett turbo's heck even happened on my safari kit which is a small turbo and shud boost relativly easy...

fuel is everything, u run boost to get the right fuel mixture, more boost keeps egts down by running a leaner mix which allows u to screw more fuel into it, boost is not making hp, the fuel it lets u put in is

Ehh and you say this why its a big turbo you need fuel to make it go... as the maker of this thread even proved..
