It is either 4 or 6, cant remember.
It counts the holes in the gear, not the teeth
To check pull out the sensor on the timing cover, rotate the engine over and count the holes.
If you are doing an engine swap from 2.8 to 4.2 they are the same count.

Hi Clanky
Thanks for the info , i no longer have the td42 turbo motor so hence the question the truck now has a srt-10 dodge motor V10 . The question is related to the overdrive gear in the auto nissan gearbox as it will not stay in lockup on highway driving.

Checked the manual and it doesnt give the count specifically.
All it says is at 30kmh or more a voltmeter on the sensor should show 1V or more. Voltage should rise and lower with vehicle speed.
When parked it should read 0V
P.S Meter needs to be on AC range
Hope this helps

the RPM sensor on the TD42 is a magnetic pickup not tooth driven. On the cam sprocket there are 6 holes that the sensor reads off, 6 pulses= 1RPM

Thanks for that , looking at putting 6 pulse index wheel on the front of the crank.
Cheers
