I ran a Detroit for over a year on a daily driver with NO clunking and banging. Are you sure you're talking about a Detroit Locker and not a Lockrite or similar poor copy? I also had NO problems with its operation both on or off-road. Sure, in muddy conditions, the rear can push you straight, but that's more a problem of no traction at either wheel so the locker will not 'unlock'. On rock or loose dirt the Detroit was faultless and turning corners was never a problem.ashtrans wrote:Hi,
we have recently taken delivery of these :

much smoother than the detroit, no clunking and banging,
we also had big problems with the clutches failing in the detroits, resulting in them not unlocking when they should,

Oh yes, it was my father and I that actually got Tractech to make the detroit for the rover diff about 12 years ago, we sent them drawings of the rover diff etc, we also worked with the tech dept to get them to alter clutch teeth angles to improve the product but they never made the charges,Micka wrote:I ran a Detroit for over a year on a daily driver with NO clunking and banging.
