Tyres 36's or 37's??

Ok, I'me ready to be flamed for this thread as I know there's been crap loads of them... BUT, buggered if I could find what I was after using the search function and sifting through about 10 pages of posts. Please point me to a link if there's one available!!
Ok,
Looking at investing in a set of play rubber... either in 36's or 37's(Prefer 37's if possible). Running a coil sprung Patrol ute with 6inch lift, F+R lockers and compete in the likes of willowglen, Nissan trials and blackrat/jamboree type events... so not too hard stuff & terrain I mostly drive on is rock/loose dirt/mud so need something of an allrounder. I need a tyre that can be driven on road for short distances(ie 25km eiher way to Watagans)and doesn't handle like a pig on redbull but still gives decent traction offroad!! This is NOT a daily driven rig but these will be play tyres only and will have a different set for normal driving when I need it... I don't have the option of trailering my rig everywhere hence needing it to be drivable for short distances with play tyres on it!!
Correct em if I'm wrong but I'm guessing with needing the on-roadability I can discount any sticky type compound tyres as they'll wear way too quickly, so my thoughts are either:
- 37 Maxxis Creepys
- 37 Maxxis Treps
- 36 Swamper Q78's
- 36 Simex ET2's
What other options do I have and what do people recommend/not recommend... keeping in mind the requirements stated above.
Cheers

Welll all of them wont be to bad on the road but need heaps of weight to balance them
If your only doin 25kms on road I wouldnt be to worried bout wear to much remenbering the bias tyres are regroveble my brother drives all the time on his creapys and hasnt worn them to bad you will notace more wear then you drive on rocks because it will take all the sharp edges off real quick I would buy the treps or a set of boggers
Is this a gq or gu because you will need to cut the gards on the gq to make them fit

I have a set of Swampers(33s), I use them onroad between my place and the Wattos, they are really well behaved onroad too.
Im actually using them as my road tyres at the moment, as my Claws have gone to crap, they handle well on road, and they are fantastic offroad.
I run them at 30psi onroad, and drop them down to about 12-14psi on the tracks.
If you are running beadlocks, then you can go even lower.
Just make sure you have clearance between the tyre and guards, otherwise your tyres will self clearance.

37" BFG Krawlers ? My 35s drive great on the road. Sidewall strength might be the only weaker issue over the other tyres you've mentioned but.

Creepys handle road duties well.

Please make sure you're clear on whether you're talking about comp spec treps (which I agree, are uber cool) and radial treps, which I don't reckon are all that flash.
As a general play tyre, I'd avoid simex ET2's. They work extremely well on slick mud, but they're not all that good anywhere else.
I'd run comp treps in an instant, but I can't fit a full height 37 on my car.
I don't think I'd bother with radial treps. they don't really seem much of an advantage over any other radial mud tyre.
Creepy's might be a good option as a 37" bias tyre. There's no good reason to run a radial in a play tyre - Radials aren't an advantage off road.
I'm a huge fan of Q78's, but at 35.5" X10" I think they are a bit small for your application. how about looking at a 36" Irok or something else from the swamper range? (38's?)
It's hard to beat swampers as multipurpose play tyres.
37" krawlers would also be cool - we have some cars running 35's here in vic and they are very versatile - they are even excellent on road.
Steve.

37 inch Krawlers!!! No other choice.
Mine have done 3 Willowglens, 3 Toperis plus plenty of club trips with probably 5000km on the tar and they are great. They actually balance nicely and drive well(no worse than a mud tyre)
I have 2 mates that have them and love them.

I didn't think they were choice these days as stocks are very low over here and in the U.S. and prices very high. I 'd like set one day.

Yay for this thread, I'm hunting for some 36/ pref 37's as well, although I want rims as well.
I've narrowed it down to:
Treps
MTZs
or creepy crawlers. (Had the 38's already)
Same type of usage.

For your driving style Em I'd say sticky treps in a heartbeat

If your looking for something on the road as well as good off road, Dont go any MAXXIS... Creepies are SHIT

, and Treps are Comp spec...
The MTZ are ok but the MTR is better than the MTZ...
And Swampers are as bad as Creepies...
So for something you are going to drive on alot the MTR's are the best

WHy dont you like the creepies Matt? I dont like that they are rounded and the centre of the tyre wears to quick. (Mudzilla's were the same)
other then that?...

I've made the decision on 37" Trepador bias ply comp spec and rims (16") / the price was right. Yay, my first set of stickies!

Krawlers!!!! Spend the coin you WONT be dissapointed!!!!! If any road driving is going to be done these are your best choice!!!
I got 2nd place at Willowglen 2010 againest quite a few sets of sticky treps so they certainly work plus 2 top tens at toperi on them!!!
Mine are not the sticky compound!

We have driven on both sizes of creepies in comps and there as bad as each other... Even down at 5psi they still don't bag out... You only run the centre of the tyre at road pressures..... I would rather boggers than creepies any day... I think best alround tyre for road/off road is the MTR 37... But that's just me.... I have nothing against treps they seem to be ok but also know alot of them with side wall torn out....

Cheers for all the input... I have another set of wranglers for road use

so as far as driving these tyres "on road," it'll only be to and from the Wattagans pretty much. So about 25km either way is about the longest distance they see tarmac for in any one day.

Soo another quick one... how would the sticky compound handle driving for approx 25km on tarmac?? Guessing it'll wear pretty quick??

My guess is that so long as you're not cooking them (high speeds at low pressure) they will be fine. 50kays of tar each time you go wheeling is bugger all.

Im a bit confused....... how the HELL can u have MTZ's in the same list as creepys and treps????? they dont even come close off road...

With the other brands as as radials they do compare. I wasn't going to get stickies at all, it's only because of availability I've got them now. So for a radial tyre I would have definately considered the MTZs, I've seen a few people using them them who've been happy with them and they're also suited to my type of usage.

But creepys don't come in radials...... I'm still confused.

MTZs are great tyres but I would never run them as play pure play tyres! Bias is better for play tyres.

My apologies for the confusion, I thought they came in radials.
But to clarify what I mean further, I'd still consider getting MTZs if I needed to, as it is I've been using the old style BFG MT's and have been happy with them as an allrounder, so for me MTZs would have been another choice to suit my lifestyle, with the others being less suitable for the road but giving me a better advantage off road.
The reason I looked at treps and creepies was because they're not too bad on the road as opposed to something like boggers or iroks.
It comes down to personal preference.
I just hope these don't wear too fast. I'll be doing about 70k's a week on them. Will see.

Yep I agree, if I was going to get pure play/comp tyres I wouldn't look at the MTZ but that is not the case, I drive my car on the road more than it's off it.
