Transfer Case Swap

I just had a phone call from the mechanic - he's swapped the transfer case and I now have 2.85 low range gears in the car! :D

However, the reason I posted this news is that they didn't remove the gearbox to swap the case. Richard (at Motorcare 4WD - http://www.motorcare.com.au/) told me it could be done, I told him I had heard otherwise from Mitsubishi, and Mitsubishi was (apparently) wrong - what would they know anyway?

The other interesting point, which I hope Frank can help with - he had to cut away the floor pan to stop the box jumping out of 4LLc, and it goes into 2H without problem. When I drove the car in this morning the box would drive (all day :) ) in 4LLc, but wouldn't go into 2H. Que? Are there different models of Super Select transfer case?

So, I guess I'm going to Ormeau on Saturday! :D

Cheers,

Scott

Hmmmm I'd say it is more related to the body lift. I had heaps of trouble popping out of low range on mine after the body lift until we finally sorted it. When the 2.85 t/case went in it started doing it again and I had to grind away a bit of the centre console to fix it.
Also the detent tension could be slightly different between the 2 cases.
The 3.0 V6 cases are all the same only the auto's are different (no nuetral position and different shifter set up).
Let me know how it goes Scott.

Yep, I know it's the body lift causing the fouling problem - I'm just surprised that changing the case went from 4LLc OK/2H not OK to 4LLc not OK/2H OK. I couldn't even get the original case into 2H, so if it's going in now I can only conclude the case is sitting in a different spot - or is it alignment of the shift rails inside which cause the change in behaviour?

So long as it works I guess it doesn't really matter - and I'm now real glad I didn't bend the shift lever to suit the original case, or I'd be bending it again. :? Who says procrastination is a waste of time? :D

I'll try to get some action pics to post soon.

Cheers,

Scott
