2.8 3L diesel crankshaft

does any one know if the 2.4lt crank will fit the 2.8 3L motor, as i have been told the block is the same.
afaik blocks are the same. i havn't checked to see if deck to crank bore is the same tho.
the cranks and pistons are different, rods are the same. ie 2.4 crank needs 2.4 pistons and 2.8 crank needs 2.8 pistons.
why not look at 5l ?
