Hey all,
Looking at ideas for upgrading the front diff on a IFS surf.
First of all I am not interested in a solid axle swap, This truck will be to go fast and turn corners, not crawl over boulders.
Anyway, I have seen the supra 8" diff swap, which is good however was thinking its still no stronger than a hilux solid axle front diff. And requires custom axles, etc, And I think having it centred will foul the engine trans combo i'm using.
Was thinking, Would it be possible to use a hilux 8" housing, Cut the tubes off, And make new end plates to take the IFS hilux drive axles. Than use a 80 series hi pinion front diff.
I assume i will also need to make the front diff cover re-movable so that I will be able to access the circlips to get the drive axles out.
So does that sound do-able?
Steve

I have been on trips with club members that run the SupraLux conversion in the IFS setups and man can they take abuse
, one is running a 5ltr V8 , twin transfers, lockers & 37" Boggers and it gets a hiding every time it's on the tracks.
The SupraLux conversion is a rippa in my book (and I run a Solid front in my Surf), I think Leeham's Surf has proved to be ultra strong and ultra reliable too.

It's deffinately possible killa. Simila has been done In the states. Jump onto pirate4x4 and look in the hummer section for a long travel build. I'd link you to it but am on my phone.
I've had similar thoughts as I work on hilux n surfs all day and wanted to find a stronger diff for customers.
Nitro gears and locker would make it strong as and run 993 cvs I think they are and a wide track kit. You'd be laughin

Steve,
This is what your looking for....the F9 Currie Axle -
http://www.currieenterprises.com/cestor ... px?id=3498
Description: For buggy, race car, and hot rod builders we now offer an independent housing for front or rearend use! Housing uses a modified version of our F9 Fabricated housing and includes 3rd. member studs, fill cap, drain plug, and vent installed. Axles accept 934 CV's, are constructed of 4340 material, and are machined and heat treated. Axle bearings and retaining hardware is included. Specify when ordering if this unit will be used standard or upside down! Housings can accept 10" ring gears with some minor trimming to the 3rd. member mounting face. Unit width is 14 1/2" from axle face to axle face, and just the bare housing is 11 3/8".
This is the same front diff that Shannon Campbell used in his 2011 KOH winning buggy. Would love to adapt this to my hilux one day

And theres alot more to it than just a centre swap, custom CV's, Custom hanger arangements, custom arms, custom steering, custom outer hubs, custom nitrated gearing.
KOH yes, but much more than ur avreage mortal to do so and then take into account the driver, navi, tem....
