Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hi all,

just wondering what the laws and rules apply to cop the excess of the back of a 45 series, there are no cross members ill be losing just the rails, (stop a few inches from suspension mounts) it this legal / be engineered, i know it used to be popular a few years ago but laws change so quick, im looking for better departure angles as there is heaps of over hang.

yes i have searched but all is about body swaps and suspension changes to it, i just want to take a bit off the back.

Speak to an engineer local to you, you will mostly get hearsay and my mate did this with no drama's etc. Engineer will tell you yes/no/maybe straight up.

When I did similar to a rangie chassis the engineer wanted me to leave 400mm past the coil mount.

Leave's may be different however.

oh just to throw in there im in queensland incase you dont look at my profile, ok so it can be done no porblems then,

I did this to my 60 series with leaves after I turned it into a ute, took around 5-600 off the back and pulled up around 120mm before the spring hanger. Got it mod plated and all legal in queensland. So yes you can do it but as stated talk to engineer first and just let them know what u plan.

ok good news, can i ask did you have to do anything special?
bracing or anything like that? or just a straigh cut with the grinder? what did your engineer ask for perko?

Drilled the rivets out and cut the rear cross member/brace off then just cut off the excess with a grinder and moved the rear cross member forward and welded it. Alternatively you could just use some rhs and blend it in, as long as it looks good the engineer I used was happy as it isn't really a big structural part of the chassie

x2 on this i took 600 out of my 80 chassis. as long as its neatwith a good solid weld. it will keep the engineer happy not a real good pic. but u get the idea.
