2h turbo help

Hey guys, i was just wanting to know what turbo will best suit my 2h.
One mate says a ct26 off a 12ht and another mate says that a 2h hasnt got enough exhaust flow for a ct26 and he recommends a turbo off a 3 litre GU patrol would be better...
Im stumped guys so any input would be much appreciated...

CT26 will work well but there are better choices out there IMO.
ZD30 (3ltr) patrol turbo is variable vain if i recall correctly - probably too high tech for a cheap 2h setup and you may have trouble finding a manifold to suit (or does it use a garret style flange?). Unless your mate's talking about an SD33 turbo which would probably be a touch undersized.

by memory i think the patrol turbo is a variable vein turbo and you are right, too much for a cheap old 2h.
The ct26 is easily accessable for me but im after a happy medium for instance i would like the turbo to help me out for low down torque but at the same time ill be doin a bit of beach driving so ill want it to be able to handle it through high revs aswell...

ct26 would be ideal.
Toyota didnt just pick the CT26 out of a hat.

yeah thats what i thought... Iv seen it on a mates 2h and it seemed to go alright...
My mate that said to go for a ct26 is a mechanic and hes a fourby nut aswell so i had a fair idea on who to listen to but i thought if i posted something up on here i might get some more info on it... But yeah thanks for the advice fellas...

the 12HT has an almost identical block to the 2H, same capacity (4L). The difference is the head (direct injection on 12HT) Oil squirters for piston cooling, etc.
You could probably get a garrett that would be a better turbo, but you will also pay alot more for it.

You'll probably have more trouble finding a manifold than a turbo (unless you're adapting to the standard manifold). Best find a manifold first, then a turbo to match the flange pattern. Many aftermarket manifolds use a Garrett flange and there are plenty of suitable 2nd hand garrett turbos floating around. I run a gt2860 on my 2h - I really couldn't ask for it to work any better.

They were still bolting CT26's to 2007 landcruisers, so i dont think they are terrible compared to garret's offerings.

Yes they were, but the working parts (compressor blades, turbine blades and housing geometries) are not the same ones used in CT26's 25 years ago. Remember CT26 is a turbo family, not a specific turbo. Before 2007 europe was getting the 1HD-FTE with a variable vane turbo and common-rail. Same basic engine but coded as the 292F.
I have a strong suspicion that garrett actually make the turbos for Toyota. The great thing about garrett turbos is the huge amount of information available on them. In comparison the CT26's are a black hole.

Have any photo's of the 292 F that include common rail?
I know it has a VNT, but never seen one with a common rail head.

Nah, it's a bit like bigfoot. I too have seen picturs of the VNT motors, but I thought they were still 1HD-FTE's.
