td42 injector pump question

hey guys, just finished a petty to diesel conversion with great sucess.
just got a quick question about the injector pump.... it had a few leaks and i sussed out one of them (loose injector line)
just want to know...... if your looking at the injector pump through the wheel arch, you can see a diamond shaped plate on the bottom right hand side to the front of the pump... it seems to have a leak coming from between the pump and the plate.
is it just a gasket behind there or something more????
cheers guys
scott

Sounds like the timing control piston cover you are looking at.
From memory the non electronic timing units are gasket and the Electronic timing type is an o-ring seal.
Did you have the pump checked before putting it on the vehicle?
Or do you know if it has had a ULS seal pacakge put through it yet?

There is an oring behind it. You may be fixing the weakest link in the chain, but seeings its easy, give it a go.

bought it off ebay at a good price, and it came off a running motor, so we didnt worry bout checking it, as for the seal kit i wouldnt have a clue if its had one put through it.
should i take it to a diesel specialist to get looked at or is a pretty straight forward job to do myself???
and yes i am mechanically minded lol
and how do you tell if its electric or non electric???

You could replace the o-ring yourself, but there are other seals you will not be able to.
As for the 'came off a running car', ive heard that many times with second hand pumps and have learnt my lesson about fitting them without being rebuilt/checked.
Electronic has a TPS sensor on the throttle shaft as well as a small electronic module at the back/bottom of the pump that controls the timing piston.
Obviously non electronic has neither of these.

pretty sure there is no tps sensor on it so im guessing its a gasket, might take it to my diesel specialist just to check and see what he thinks.
got no money to replace it cos i just spent it all doing the conversion, hopefully i can get away with just replacing the gasket as its the only spot its leaking from

Dzltech did say o-ring. Has been a long time since I have had one apart so I would take his word for it.
Internal leaks are the biggest cause of lack or performance/smoke etc.. with a pump. If the diesel is pushing past seals due to scoring it will effect total fuel volume flow, pressure, timing just about everything.

no worries, cheers for the help guys. Hopefully its nothing too drastic.
will post back after i find out what the problem is, fingers crossed the o-ring is jus stuffed.
cheers

The price is very good, but im unsure how they quoted you on the rebuild without seeing the internals of the pump.
Possibly just query them again and make sure they are giving you the full information regarding any other bits that might need replacing (pre injectors, cam ring etc..) and a total worst case scenario price.

i wouldnt spend any money on a gq pump, if you get onto the right people they are cheap as chips, i picked up a gu pump with bigger plunger and boost compensator for less than 900

Mate, I paid money to have a GQ pump built and modified.
It now runs an 11mm plunger and a rising rate of fuel delivery all without the use of a boost compensator. I can PM the details of the guy who did it with a price if you like ?
He is in Rockhampton though......
