Why a 35 for a road tyre? Would a 33 be more suitable.

I am very interested in this, have you actually bought some from the US of A? if so how did you do this, their pricing does not show shipping costs to australia, how much was it for your tyres? etc to ship?

thanks dave

At the time i bought them. 2mths ago.

tyre $178usd each (dearer now)
postage $400 total to my door for 4.

Buying in aus is no competition. 35'km2 at $380 best price i found here local with a long waiting period. We are seriously being screwed up our ass in Aus.

There here..

Rims from same place also..But seperate order for under 1kcustoms, otherwise would of been taxed more for the set i think.
Im sure there is other places cheeper. tirerack seems like a general tyre shop, ike beaurepairs or bobjane. Alot don't reply to emails or dont want to deal with overseas customers....

I can do 35x12.5R15 Maxxis Bighorns @ 289 each including fitting and balancing in Melbourne, Eastern Suburbs.

PM me for details, 1 day turn around time from the time of ordering. This price is for anyone off the Outers forum, will do alignments @ trade pricing also.

Other sizes available as stock comes in.

thanks for the reply, so it took about 2 mths for them to arrive? i'd be happy to wait that long:-) at the right price.

the problem i'm having is I need 315/75/16 tyres and in need them in a high load rating, about 127. I really want the Toyo Open Country MT as they have super strong sidewalls, but cost a fortune in aus and don't have the same load rating as in USA.
All the 35" tyres in aus are only rated at 121 at best, but in USA they have most of the same tyres we get here, but in the higher load ratings which I need for the truck i am putting them on (mitsubishi canter 4x4 with super singles all round) as the rear axle is rated to 3300kg.

bfg no longer e mark their tyres sold in america so that other markets can distinguish
them as a grey import in the case of warranty and balance issues and deny any chance
of a warranty claim .

That's pretty much the same with most tyre companies - anything imported outside of the manufacturers own imports generally won't have a warranty attached. Why would they honor a warranty for a tyre that might not even be designed for our conditions? Most tyre companies (Michelin, BFG, Bridgestone etc) have documented cases where a tyre has failed and been brought in for warranty only to find it was an outside (we call the Parallel) import and not ADR compliant. Seen a write-off insurance claim knocked back for this very reason. Add to this the fact that a lot of imported tyres can be several years old when they get to you, severly reducing their usable life. The rubber is generally dead within 5-6 years, depending on the compound.

So it can be worth spending the extra dollars in Oz, you get warranty, dealer support, and most tyre stores are happy to help out with any balancing issues that arise with tyres they fit. Plus you're helping a local keep his job, rather than some fat yocal seppo.

Some people don't care, I work to support me, not you. The local guys at the michelin dealer i got them fitted and balanced at with no problems, and minimal weights.

My tyres are new. No tyre merchants will sell old tyres and a keen market will make a good turn around, so none will be left sitting in the corner waiting for months for a buyer let alone years, where's that coming from...?

Im not trying to sell tyres, I'm refering my opinion from experience.
If your trying to sell tyres, go to the Selling section! Im suprised they have let you go this far with the Bighorns that are no comparison.

Show me the print to say they are non aus compliant. Dot specs etc. and markings to match. A legit document.

With the price i get them from there, i could buy another km2 if 1 blows up, and still be within aus dealer prices...And thats my warranty. So really, its like buying second hand tyres, Only that they are new..

Was never trying to sell directly, I was just responding to the initial question and post in the thread. And if I'm in a position to extend a general offer to the members of the forum, I'll post it. If the MODS have a problem with it, I'm sure they'll contact me and I'll respect their wishes and move the post. Or delete it.

And I never said the Bighorns were better than the BFG's. I also think the KM2s are a far superior tyre, to the point that I run them on my truck. And I understand your point the cheaper pricing being your "warranty" as such too. But for a lot of people I deal with, if they're going to outlay $1000+ for a set of tyres they want to know what support they get with them. There's an argument for both sides I guess, and I'm just putting my point of view across.

Just for your reference guys, I got a quote from TireRack on a set (4) of 305/70x16 and 35/12.5x15 MTR Kevlars -

35/12.5x15 = $1310.62 not including any tax, tarrifs or charges.
=$327.50 before charges

305/70x16 = $1509.22 not including any tax, tarrifs or charges.

=$377.25 before any charges

I dont think that is much cheaper than buying them locally I wouldnt think.

Hope that helps.

Have you priced them locally? New Wranglers will be over 400each for 15's.

My recipt for the tyres had 2 values on them "Customs value" and "postage value"

Customs value was the price of the tyres in usd

and gixxerpilot you must know the guy pretty well to call him a (fat yocal seppo)
personally attacking some one that i dont know would all be bit sad

So did you have to pay any customs tax etc in australia? this is an area that is a bit confusing to me.

so the customs value is the tyre cost only, not including the postage cost?

someone mentioned something about a $1000 limit tax free? is this correct? so if i was to go over this limit then would it make sense to get say my family to also import the tyres and spread the limit around a bit?

any thoughts :?

Yes. True 35". with no weight on them. Unsure pressure, whatever the shop put in. So probably 400psi
