Hey guys
I have a gen 3 ls1vy commodore that i boght for the engine.
It has a manual gearbox and i want togo to auto.
Ive found a bloke who wants to do a straight swap- his auto for my manual.
The only issue i can see is that he has a vx ls1 which is 3 years older than my vy.
Does anyone know how different the wiring looms are?
And will i need to get he's auto computer tuned to run in my car even with the complete loom and auto?
i really need to now this asap as i want to start
thanks

I doubt whether the registration authorities will pass an older engine in a newer car. If his engine is 3 yrs older than your chassis you will not be able to change the engine details on your rego, and you car will technically be "unroadworthy" if you fit the engine (BIG problem in any accident - you are substantially if not 100% liable regardless of any other circumstances).
I would be talking with the transport dept before going ahead with the swap.

And I think he only wanted to swap the transmissions anyway, not the donk... But irrelevant as he's dropping it into an '88 hilux, thereby making it 'safer'.

I sold a mate the tranny that came with my ls1 which was a vt (so 99? ) and he put it behind his vy with no problems.

ive been in contact with holden and a few performance shops and the wiring on the vt to vy is comletely different because i was going to swap a mate who has a vt.
ive found someone close by with a vy auto who is willin to do a swap.same model and everything.
The computer question still stands though,Will the computer have to be remapped to work in my car seeing as though its out of a different VY with different security codes?
cheers

Some LS1's were designated auto only.
All I can figure is there was something to do with the thrust bearings.

Yes the wiring looms between VT and VY are different, However its only how it connects into the car that differs.
LS1 ecu's can be reflashed to be either auto or manual, So you don't need a new ECU, Just re-program. I could do that for $150, and take the VATS out at the same time

we are swapping computers also so ill end up with the auto computer.
Will the other blokes computer work in my car though? or will it still need a reflash to be in sync with all the other security devices?

Your computer will still need to be re-programed to turn the security off.
The other guy will alo need to have the new PCM programed to match his body control module. This may need to be done buy holden

I think you'd find it's easier to keep your original computer and just get it reprogrammed to suit.
I've had experience with "Oztrack" (google it), and he's a great bloke.
Call him, give him your specs (exhaust/extractor size, intake mods etc) and he'll send you a "mail order tune". Drop that computer in and send your original one back and your done.

I ended up getting the auto computer because it was mafless tuned and stuff.
I have a few mates that work at Holden so should be fine.
My next question is do you have to move the alternator or can you get away with it?
Because the brackets I've looked at are pretty expensive.
Or is there a cheaper way to do it?
Cheers

buttluxx88 You'll need some teal slacks to fit the alternator in the original position.
