Re: Lockers??Price?
A couple of mates of mine have told me to stay away from auto lockers?

Re: Lockers??Price?
If you can afford it always go for air locker or electric lokker (arb/ tjm) that way you can just turn it off when not needed and forget about it.
Auto lockers are cheap and work well but can be a pain on road at times. But do a search on them there is heaps of info.
4x4 action has not long done a comparison with all costs and strength.

Re: Lockers??Price?
I used to drive mine on road with the rear locker and 33s happily. Sometimes it would give a bit of a bang when it unlocks but nothing bad. And if your up it round a corner it will chirp, but for the added benefit and reduced price of an airlocker it was definately worth it for my budget truck.
Re: Lockers??Price?
I ran a Lockright in the front and rear of my sprung over SWB 40 with 35's. Once you get used to coasting around corners, the tyre wear isn't too bad. Your Lux has a longer wheelbase which should give you a bit more warning before it spins in the wet. They're easy to install yourself (just remove the tailshaft and axles then pull the 3rd member out and install the gears through the hemisphere/centre). It's pretty easy to install the rear in 90 minutes.
If you're going to pay someone to install the locker, you could be paying an extra $200-$300 each end.
An IFS truck will benefit most from a front locker though, as you'll constantly be lifting a wheel. This may be a better option and just throw an LSD in the back if you wanna do it on the cheap.

Re: Lockers??Price?
Agree with ^^^^ if I was you I would shim up the LSD."pretty aure yours is factory LSD". And put a Arb air locker if the front if you can afford it,
Also off the shelf price is $1250 from Arb. Plus $300 odd for a compressor plus fitting price

93 duel cab lux. 2.8 TD twin locked. Big tyres, little lift. Wide stance. Barwork and build up under way
Re: Lockers??Price?
I ran a shimmed LSD in my lux for a bit, don't reckon it's worth the effort when for around $400-500 you can have a lockrite which actually works off road.
Best value for your dollars. I'm sure you would find someone to help you install on outers for a case of beer... Lockrites are really easy to install.

Re: Lockers??Price?
Yeah I've had a couple people tell me to put a front locker in, but more people say a rear cause wouldnt that make up for the limited flex on the front?? and also, if u put a locker in the front of an IFS, doesnt that give u more of a chance of snapping cv's and stuff cause tyres are always lifting of the ground???
cheers guys for the opinions..

Re: Lockers??Price?
yes it does. but because of that you ajust your driving style. and because you have a front locker you will be able to drive up things slower not on the gass as much because you will always have grip. not trying to bounce up things.(if that makes sense)99HiluxIFS wrote: if u put a locker in the front of an IFS, doesnt that give u more of a chance of snapping cv's and stuff cause tyres are always lifting of the ground???

Re: Lockers??Price?
I going twin lockers Arb's just getting new ratios befor I install so I don't have to do it twice, if I was you I would lock the front with a Arb air locker. Pull your rear out shim the LSD tight then basically twin locked till you can afford another locker

Re: Lockers??Price?
yeh, i nearly fell over when they told me that price. I will fit them myself, i was just curious how much they would charge to supply and fit.
Re: Lockers??Price?
Yer I know this bloke that will do the install for me. Locker into housing with new ratios. Then I will install the rest. Just not confident mucking round with that sort of money.

Re: Lockers??Price?
I was looking on the trail gear website and they have whole dif centres with new 5.29 ring and pinion as well as a detroit locker for $999.
I am considering getting one. They also had air lockers for an extra $370.
Anyone else interested so we can save on frieght.

I would have thought it would reduce the chances off busting CV's because they don't free spin and stop instantly when the wheel hits the ground again. Both wheels spinning the same speed even if one is in the air should reduce broken stuff
if it ain't broke send it to me i'll fix it!
