Basically i have no spare money for 4WDing want to get a bit further in my hunjy, it's the part time pov pack.
Wondering if anyone has welded a diff in one?
I know i'll get windup and tyre wear etc etc. I had a zook with a welded rear.. (weld saved my life once!)
wondering if the cruiser is just to heavy to do it with?
will i break axles ect?
i do a fair bit of tarmac work too..

Your post is about the rear diff ???

If it is
running a cig in car that is worth some coin and you drive it on the road u serious mate ..up to you ........i ran a cig in a rotor and my mates ran them in some datto 1600"s when we were young and dumb when we paid no more than $1000 for the cars.
id never run a cig in a 4x4 unless it was a trailer queen car and never seen the black top ... save the coin and get an auto lokka or get the diff center shimmed.
constant drive with the cig lokka you will come unstuck or break things and you will wear tyres quickly ...with the auto lokka you can drive it to suit road conditions.

i get what you're saying.. I want an auto lokka.. cant afford one. I wont come unstuck ;) but your other points are all valid. I have seen guys run them in lighter 4wds and done it myself with out issues. I am likely to snap an axle with wheelspin on a hill as it is.. i will always break stuff.. just wondering if the weight adds more issues?

not sure if weight is an issue tho i would say engine power and tyre size would put a lot of strain on other components in the car.

Why don't you weld the front diff instead?

It will make it stronger
No worries on road
Can always run with one hub unlocked if there is an issue.

I wouldn't run one in the rear, especially since you say you drive on road alot. If you can't afford a locker, can you afford to replace a busted diff or axle?

I'd say go for the CIG locker in the front if you must, as said, unlock the hubs and you are sweet for tarmac

having the front locked will get you a lot further. steering on hard rocky surfaces could be intersting at times though
