Why are Land Rovers So Expensive?

So, not technically Tech, but definately about Rovers
Since the old landcruiser is getting a bit old, was starting to browse online to see whats around, and landrovers peaked my interests, both the shortys and 110's.
Not so many 2nd hand, and the newer ones are still fetching big prices.
So, im guessing no one sells their landys once they have them, must be pretty good rigs!
Whats the down low?

2nd hand I would have thought they have one of the worst resale values. New compared to Nissan and Toy they arent considered expensive?????
its been a while since Ive bought though

Depends what model. Discoverys and Range Rovers lose value quickly, as do most luxury cars. Defenders on the other hand retain their value exceptionally well. One of the reasons for this is the second hand market is not flooded with ex-corporate/mining/government vehicles. If only the military would release theirs, but they tend to run them to destruction or sell them off to other countries.

Ha, cheers blokes...
Yeah i was just curious with the defenders as there were really nothing on car sales. Just was wanted to get a feel for prices and what different year models were going for. Was unable to really find any apart from new ones, hence my curiosity.
Thanks!

New defenders were selling for $45k recently. Compare that to a hilux or cruiser!
A mid 90's defender can be bought for under $10k and a mid 90's disco for under $5k (even diesels).

Your about to get what you wished for the entire fleet of landys is about to go under the hammer as mercedes has been green lighted to replace them all with G-wagons.
Apparently you will be looking at around 5k for an 110 patrol vehicle. I want a 6x6 ambulance personally

Defenders have the much more comfortable( RR classic) suspension set up with coils but can carry 1 ton so unlike a cruiser or patrol(580-650kg payloads) you can fit your accesories and load it up for a trip without being over the weight limit or having to put up with hilux etc leaf suspension on a trip. Have a look on carpoint and at AULRO as a few get advertised for sale.
The auction is going to be by manheim fowles, go to their web site and you can rego to be informed of when they are being auctioned.
