i had a good look throught the forums & couldnt find info.will a 94 cherokee rear diff fit into a 96 grand ?

Yes....Sort of....
The width is correct and the bolt pattern is correct....and they both might be D35"s but....
You'd need to remove the leaf spring perches & shock mounts. Then burn on control arm mounts, coil buckets and new shock mounts.
Then you'd most likely need to regear the std XJ ratio (3.54) to Std ZJ rato (3.73).
Then you'd need to swap the ABS components, cause even if the XJ has ABS (Limited) it's different to the ZJ.
Then decide if you want to swap your existing disc brakes or change to the XJ drums. Which would also reuire a new proportioning valve.
After all that you've now succeeded in fitting one of the crappiest diffs ever attached to a vehicle.
