A mate has been having leaking issues with there 4.5 auto petrol power steering leaking and getting heavy. There us no puddle under car over night, at work etc the lines have been replaced (needed it) so they took it too a "ps specialist" today.

They said it leaks back into the sump (WTF?) and that's why there's no puddles. They replaced the pump (I haven't checked this) and charged $400.

This sounds very odd too me!

Are the petrols different too the diesels?
Surely it can't be connected too the sump?
Has any one had this before?

Ps we bleed the system a few weeks ago and it fixed the problem for a little whole.
It needed filling like twice a week too

the pump on a 1fz is bolted into the front of the motor and gear driven from within the motor. Its very common for them to blow the seal in the pump, and then pump all its fluid into the sump.

Dont worry ur mate hasnt been taken for a ride ;)

if it hasn't been done already, he should probably change his engine oil
