I'm thinking about getting some bilstein 5150 shocks for my 80 series, just wondering if anyone has them and what they think of them

They are a top quality shock, you just have to look at their reputation.

Different but similar, My Subaru's runs Bilsteins struts stock.

The small canister looks abit more like bling/pointless to me. I was going to get the basic ones or the full rebuildable. I ended up with the lower priced basic ones shipped from the US. They still look bling, but they are functional.

I think the 5150's only come as eye to eye, so you might need a eye-pin adapter to make them fit. you will find valving and expanded/compressed lengths online so you can make sure you find the right sized shock.

Yeh I have to get the pin to eye adapoter, the bloke I talked to said the little canister makes a difference but he might just be trying to sell them, I was also thinking maybe go the rebuildable better ones but by the time I get them shipped here will prob be a bit out of my price range

Out of interest what are they worth in Australia or are you getting them from the US?

About 800 for the set in Australia but 100 each shock in USA than got to get them shipped

I to would like to know how these will go on a 80 series? would they be bigger enough? How would these compare in sizing to say a fox racing shock? would it be the equivalent of a 2.0?

That's what I have and wanting to put them on a 80 series that is now a extra cab

i have a set that i bought for a hilux, i think the shaft size and valving would be wrong for the 80 as they are alot heavier than the hilux.

For the front, an off road only vehicle could use the 5150 shocks if they came in pin pin. However, I recommend you consider the 5165 remote reservoir shocks that we can get in the not so soft valving.

I have imported the 5150 fixed reservoir and 5165 remote reservoir shocks and are selling 5165 in pin pin front so they just bolt up. You can't get them in pin pin elsewhere.

We will be testing a set of 5165 at this years Outback Challenge early next month and we have several other customers testing the remote reservoir shocks over Easter so we will have much better feedback soon but if they are half as good as initial testing suggests then everybody is going to want them.

We are selling them for $1500 for a set of 4 including a 1 year warranty.

So you only make $500+ on a set..

i am running 5160 which are valved to suit the JK wrangler in the front and and plain old 5100 also valved to suit the JK in the back end.

I am pretty pleased with them. It gets a bit choppy at low speeds on rough ground when unloaded but at speed it is very good and with the proper vehicle load its sublime for a shorty.

We have to convert them from eye to pin, pay for GST and customs and freight and give a 12 month warranty while they normally have no warranty. We will be making money on them though
