trouble with blocking egr is it tends to make it overboost, hence the use of the dawes valve. otherwise you need to adjust the turbo actuator a bit. plenty of info on the patrol forum.

I will just chime in with 1 comment, The fan will help at low speed (less than 40kph) anything above this and it will become a restriction to flow.
Just fyi

The Dawes valve is a ball & spring type of boost controler. It has been proven to be the most effective method of controling boost on a ZD30.
Available from 3 bar racing in the US. It is known as the TDI boost controler.

The needle valve is used to control the spoolup rate of the turbo. You could adjust the VNT screw on the turbo but the needle valve is far better.

Withe these installed. The Patrol feels like a different car. More responsive. Less lag and no drops in boost like the factory controler causes.
The best place to get info on installing them is on http://www.patrol4x4.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you find info anywhere else it will most likely have been coppied from there.

Before you Block the EGR. You should install a boost & EGT gauge. Without them you are just guessing what the engine is doing.

That hose runs to the needle valve thats inside the cab.
Its the bleed to control the spoolup rate.

I found when doing these exact same mods in standard form the ZD30 ECU controls the boost level by a control valve in the front of the engine bay via a vacuum hose to the turbo. Originally the ECU will substitute some boost pressure with exhaust gasses from EGR. It is important that when blocking the EGR you do bypass the electronic boost management and install a Daws valve. Otherwise you will have less boost under load as the ECU still believes that exhaust gasses are going as it backs off the boost level. It is important you do install the EGT and boost gauges as these will be required to get your setup spot on. Takes a bit of time and testing up and down hills adjusting Daws vale to get the right boost and EGT set. I ended up doing away with the needle vale and just adjusted the tiny grub screw to restrict the turbo opening up all the way.
GU runs cooler, more power and better fuel economy now. A bit of farting around but worth it. :armsup:

First mods.
EGT gauge and boost gauge. Should be factory fitted IMO.
