Hey guys a mate of mine just bought a gq with an RB30 carby motor.
now we have an RB30 efi motor here that we wanna take the EFI of and use in his car. has anybody done this conversion before? Is it as simple as changing the manifold over, the dizzy, wiring harness and ecu?
are the cams the same
are the heads the same etc
cheers guys

Do you have a VL commodore ECU or an R31 Skyline ECU? Auto or manual ECU? VL wiring loom has more body electrics in than the more separate R31 engine harness.

There are differences in fuel pump control in the ECU between Nissan and Holden. You'll need a new fuel pump either way.

It'll run, but you'll get better economy if you run the Vehicle Speed Sensor VSS and mod it to suit the patrol for better control of fuelling.

I'm only adding fragments, but do a search on here and on MudRhino. There's some good info out there on this swap and I don't want to add too much wrong or confusing info. Hopefully others will add some more.

hey mate, my name is Nick, ive done this conversion on my gq.
your wiring needs will depend if your going with the vl or r31 ecu, turbo or n/a, and if your going to run a big fuel system to support your mods.
my GQ is running a t04 turbo, RB20 270cc injectors, R31 intank pump, bosch 044 external pump, billet fuel rail, front mount cooler, modified n/a inlet plenum (front facing throttle body), vl turbo ecu, and 10 psi boost, and external 48mm gate through 2.5" exhaust, im not running the vehicle speed sensor yet, but still get 16l/100km and around 185rwkw on 33" muddys. and still at 9.0:1 compression.
its a great mod to do, i would recomend it to anyone thinking of doing it.
it drives tame off boost, my missus drive it down the shops, and it blows off new patrols/crusers with ease when asked to.
pm me with your email and i can send you heaps of of info and pics.
