hi guys
i have a 93 gq which i have converted to a turbo diesel running a t3/t4 chinese turbo also known as a to4e.
my problem is when i got the car running it was great, but after a month i blew the oil seal in the turbo which i put down to the turbo sitting around for years and the seals drying out before i put it on ( turbo was brand new ).
so i rebuilt the turbo replacing all the bushes, clips and seals, worked really but now after a couple of weeks now if the car sits at say a set of lights for a whole sequence when i take of and hit boost it blows a cloud of blue smoke. i have also put a reducer in as i was told it might be blowing the seals out from to much oil pressure.
im really lost with what the problem could be and i dont have enough cash to go get a garrett and change the exhaust.
any help would be appreciated
cheers.

NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
Re: NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
Do you know if it's the turbo seals blown again?
Cause there might be another issue such as worn piston rings/valve stem seals.

The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.
Re: NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
Cloudy white smoke is generally turbo seals, normally with a blue tinge to it would mean rings or valve stem seals.MIDGET wrote:hi guys

If its happeneing once its on full boost, I would say its possibly a cracket piston causing huge amounts of blow by.
Take the oil filler cap off and see if it blows excessive amounts of pressure out of it.
Re: NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
cheers guys
the motor has only got 160,000khs on it, i have taken the breather hose off the top of the motor and there is not much blow by so im pretty sure motor is good. when the turbo went first time front seal shit its self and pumped the whole intake and exhaust with heaps of oil.
is it true that the turbo needs a reducer on the oil supply, or will the turbo drain out excess oil not needed to lubricate?
cheers

Re: NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
Oil from the drain should be measured to see if its too much. A bush bearing turbo needs/requires more oil than a bb turbo. I think the answer lies in the type of turbo you have, a chinese unit. Buy an original brand, you wont go wrong, turbos should last 200k plus if looked after.

Re: NEED HELP? TURBO ISSUES
Most of the chinese turbo's arent balanced properly at all.
This leads to severe bearing wear in a short time.
Some of the earlier ones I saw coming into the country had small droplets of lead or some other substance dripped onto
the compressor wheels (probably their attempt at balancing).
How many rebuilds or replacement turbo's until you are already at the cost of a garrett anyway?
Thats basically the question I use when choosing cheaper options.
