It apears that my rear output shaft and or bearings are worn, and is making a tinny rattelling noise when driving under load, and I can move the tailshaft around at the transfer case end
1. how hard is it to rebuild an NJ transfer case?
2. can you buy a rebuild kit for them?

Re: Pajero Transfer case Problem
You can just renew the output piece where the slipjoint is, thats what I did. Made it out of brass - solid as a rock now. There is a thread here someone on it,

Re: Pajero Transfer case Problem
Cheers njv6, ill try the bush first, I don't have a vibration as such, its more of a loose fit which is causing the tailshaft to bang away when under load, and if I wind the Windows up its alot quieter lol

Re: Pajero Transfer case Problem
Does anyone know, if the transfer cases are the same or are there different models.
I know that there are different sized output shafts but wether thats the only difference or not, I'm not sure and any help is appreciated.
Cheers Jeff

Re: Pajero Transfer case Problem
I understand the autos are different to the manuals and the 3.5's are different to the 3.0's, but I can't remember id the 2.8 is the same as the 3.5 and the 2.5 is the same as the 3.0. I think they are, WACKO may know, I think he did the swap a few years ago in his JTop.
