hi my old man has a 2.8 turbo gu and every now then when he gos to start it its like its hydrolicing and takes a couple of shots to start it and when it starts it runs rough for a few seconds.
we have been told it could be oil or water leaking down ontop of 1 of the pistions any info would be good the only thing that gets me i would of thought it would do it all the time.
also if he gets the head done would it be worth getting it ported and polished thanks luke.

Generally when a motor sits from hot to cold, it will draw water in to the cylinder if there is a small leak.
Probably the best way to check is to do a cooling system pressure check. Just pull the glow plugs out before you try and start it if the cooling pressure drops from 20psi to anything less than that. If it has, it means water is escaping into the block/head somewhere.
Cracked head is very common on the RD28's, normally from overfueling them.

Just about ^^^^^^ only Pressurize between 13-15 psi. 20 psi is excessive and will cause leaks that won't happen in normal conditions.

Except under conditions such as failed head gasket....
Most radiator caps are 14.7psi so will generally not see above that pressure, alot of people replace them with 17psi units however. Just check on the cap and pressurize to what ever its rated to.

You might want to start your own thread, or alternatively you could do a search.
Thick black smoke would tend to indicate over fueling, but I'm far from an expert.
