Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Has anyone used the RDA Gold disc rotors.... the ones that are slotted and dimpled?? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PATROL-GU-Y61-3- ... 2c5a01e45f

Looking to improve the braking on the 3L patrol and wondering if these are the go or just plain slotted ones??

Also, what brake pads would best suit these rotors??

BTW... tried the search thingy, but buggered if I can find what I want... feel free to point me to a thread if there is one

I doubt the cross drilled? ones will do much for you except fill with dirt/mud.
Beleive they are designed to be more resistant to corosion & drilled holes dissapate heat better at high usage e.g. race cars.

Have used Bendix in the past with good results, tho have just put in set of EBC Ultimax pads, will see how they go.

I run the DBA slotted rotors on my 105, no probs but have seen the slotted/drilled rotors crack between the wholes on both 4x4 and road cars

What about the braking are you trying to improve? If its fade resistance the cross-drilled may help but most people recommend steering away from them due to their tendency for cracking. If you want better stopping power your best bet will be a softer compound brake pad or bigger brakes. Others will be able to recommend what pads are best for your patrol though.

Have read that the genuine Nissan pads to suit the 4.8 Patrols make a noticable difference.

I put some on a 80 series and they were stuffed in 8000k's. RDA didnt want to know, the ebay seller sure didnt care and i ended up replacing with DBA

RDA is cheap rubbish IMO

I quizzed RDA on this just the other day, Gold passivation slightly improves corrosion resistance and aesthetic qualities but does nothing to improve braking. Slotted rotors and an upgraded pad will help as will a master cylinder upgrade to a bigger bore.

Bigger master will move more fluid but give you a harder pedal to push and probably higher. Will need a larger booster to match the master to get similar pedal feel but with more pressure to the calipers.
If you drop 1 size master it will provide more pressure to the calipers, but may not have enough stroke in the pedal to apply it.
If you have 1" bore master std, going to 15/16 master might be about right.

Brakes are an extremly important part to get right, so do your homework really well before changing things .... your & my life may depend on it !
