Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Don't know if it has been discussed before but I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed a difference using standard nissan oil filters on a diesel as compared to something like ryco or similar.

Reason I ask is that I used to have rycos and thought that this time I would replace with a more expensive original oil filter.

Well now on cold start up the oil light stays on for heaps longer than it used to leading me to believe that the nissan filters have a shithouse anti drain back compared to others!???
With the ryco it used to go out very quickly but now with the nissan it worries me as it stays on for a good few seconds longer

Anyone else had this happen?
There are no leaks or anything and once going oil pressure is as it should be.

Expensive OEM ones? Deal we get with local dealer is $10!

Mine were the opposite with genuine ones. I run them all the time, light goes out 2-3 seconds, where Coopers were 10!

I'd call Nissan dealer and say you want to change them for others.

Havent used Ryco for yonks.

Cant remember but I think I paid about 45 bucks for both of em together!

Do ya think I got bad ones or do they sell different types?????

call dealer and ask... something sounds wrong to me...

I have the same prob, I didnt pay $10 each either, they were like $22 each.. genuine nissan ones..

I believe that there are different types of genuine Nissan filters. The later TD42 in GU's has 2 different types--one with a drainback valve and one without. I think these later types have a silver casing. The types for earlier engines are blue and i THINK do contain a drainback valve. Ryco Z9's can be used in place of Z115's and have worked fine for me for the last 500.000kms on my TD42GQ

I am just not sure what the go is.
Think I might do another oil change well before schedule and change to different ones.

ryco filters are ok, but not great, and coopers would have to be about the most average, cheap ass junk quality filter around, apart fron silverline and other small import brands.

i run ac delco, and the light goes out pretty quick, and i have shit oil pressure.

less than $10 too, and backed by general motors

Trade price we can get for the Genuine Nissan filters is about $20 for a TD42 - like to know who the $10 punter works for!!..

Far better option (in our experience at least) with most diesel motors is use Cummins Fleetgaurd filters.

Will two of these Cummins Fleet Guard ones fit on a nissan patrol diesel????

there are 2 models of filters for the TD42. The ones for the GU, are a different style, but they ended up going back to the original ones for the new model GU..

Someone is taking good money from you guys - I buy genuine nissan filters from the local dealer for less than $20 per pair and their price went up recently by about $2 per filter. Have noticed recently the oil light stays on for longer than it used to - could be cold weather though

GQ & Bogged, im with you guys about the price. I did find once I went to the nissan filters my oil light stays on for longer on initial startup. On the GQ deisel there are two types of filters, up to 11/92 & after 11/92. The latter are about 22-25 dollars each where the earlier onse are cheaper. This could explain the price difference.

Yeah, the Cummins have listings for the Nissan Diesels, (on our GQTD42 all its filters are fleetgaurd), just look eme up in the phone book. May pay a little extra but worth it.

so whats the verdict.. I have an 88 diesel and use the expensive filters (from what I remember), and the oil light stays on for some time..

Will the Z9 also fit the TB42? They look fairly similar in size to the much dearer Z178.

I used to use the Valvoline filters (made in China)from Supercheap but the oil light took longer to go out than I was comfortable with, especially after not starting it for a few days. .

At my last oil change I switched to Fleetguard filters ($8 each), the oil light goes out much much faster. Fleetguard filters are available from a lot of truck supply places. I'm happy.

I think its mainly to do with the quality of the anti drain back valve.

So a z9 filter will srcew straight on as a direct replacement ?if so is it worth while just using them or go to a Fleet guard or Cat filter how about Kand N

Just thought I would put up on here that I just yesterday swaped to cummins fleetgaurd filters with the drain back valve and wow what a difference.

The ones I had from nissan where the right ones but for some reason they took way too long for the oil light to go out especially on cold start. Nissan offered to supply two more at trade price for me but I passed on the offer.

Now the light is off literally within a second (instead of 5!) Oil pressure has not changed at all.

two filters only cost me about $9 ea inc GST from diesel shop as compared to about $20+ ea for nissan ones.

I know what I will be using in the future.

What part # on the fleetguard ones?

They are LF3314

Got em from QLD diesel supplies. But should get em for same down there.

As I recently posted in a thread here about my own oil change experience with filter numbers, I think that I got a better filter this time for cold start. My old filters were the Valvoline ones, fitted by the last owner.

I will be looking at the cummins ones though. I will see what sort of deal the local truckline can do.
