Auto Hub problem??

Just got back from a week a mates place in Coffs and have noticed a cluncking noise coming from the front drivers side hub.... but only in reverse!! Done some light 4wding up there around the Nymboida area, nothing serious where it would've caused it grief, & only used the "auto" side of the hub when we needed 4wd as I couldn't be bothered getting out to put it in "lock" just for a short while.

But, story goes...

I was driving down the Pacific Hwy just sth of Coffs on the way home and had a sudden noise which seemed like the hub was trying to engage.. (not nice at 100kmh) pulled up and had a look, nothing unusual, putted up a driveway and reversed a few times to see if I could get it to do it again... no luck, so drove all the way home with no dramas. Went to reverse out the driveway this morning and have a clunking coming from the drivers side hub, which seems to happen at roughly the same point of each tyre rotation. Pulled the hub off and reversed a few times.. no clunking.

Soo, is this hub now stuffed?? Or how do I fix it/find what part is broken?? I've not had much to do with these auto hubs.

Cheers

Ohh, it's an GU auto 3.0 Tdi 2000 if that helps.

Replace them with Manual hubs!

That is a common fault on the auto hubs. U should be able to get everything for under $200
