Im in the process of building some rock sliders and am wondering which is the best way to mount the without welding to the chassis
i thought of weld up a U section and bolting through the top or is it better to have the bolt along the side of the chassis
any one got pics would be great
cheers

yeah mate, i've got a set that are bolted with plates either side of the chassis.
They're easier to make and effective.
However the U shape style you're thinking of is definatly a better way to go.
Been down at ormeau trying to drive up the bum crack track with 2 other makes, all with sliders. One of us had the U shape mounts and slid straight over the rocks no problems however myself and my mate with the plate style struggled. We got up in the end but had to really smash past that sharp edge

I have U shapped mounts with 2 bolts above the chassis. They only are like 8mm or 10mm below the chassis so rocks dont get caught there. Only issue I had with the mounts are that the 2 bolts on the top of the chassis needed to floor to be tapped a bit higher for more clearance so teh bolts could be tightened.
Really strong mount and the sliders haven't moved at all.

Hey mate,
can you take some pics of where each u section fits?

Totally agree, also use the side of the front body mount with a plate approx 100mm x 250mm X 6mm plus located with 3 bolts and then weld a 40x 40mm rhs along the plate to locate the front of the slider
I have been inspected by Qld transport with these and no problems

These are the ones I made for my a GQ shortie but is pretty much the same as any patrol chassis gq/gu. lwb you can fit 2 u mounts around the chassis.
front 1 bolts to the body mount
2nd is just on the chassis kink
3rd is just in front of the rear control arm mount

I use 8mm on the U section. No need for any heavier. On the front mount I use 10mm angle. Kinda hard to make out in the photo
