Halogen VS LED Driving Lights

Hi
This link was sent to us from a supplier of all our LED worlights that are becoming very popular on alot of our CAT gear we are sending to site.
Just thought it was worth a look and maybe someone else might find it interesting, i think it may be
slightly biased towards making the LED's better, but still, worth a look.

I have a Vision X 22" led light bar no the first thing i will say ( About mine ) is if you want to see a long way done the road, these are not for you. But these light still through out a hell of a lot light for led. Mine have 40 3watt led's in it, I would say at best it would through out maybe 400 meters and proably 60-70 meters of spread.
I have 6 other spot lights on the truck all of which are 55w HID, and the head lights are 35w hi/low beams and thay all are 6000k colour temp. For me I love the light i am trying to sell my light force to fund buing another one ( allso help with air flow )

Interesting video and the difference are obvious.
Shoot me down for observing something odd though. Being a forest-rally environment why are they using spot-beam Cibie's? I would've thought spread-beam would be more useful since range/distance isn't an issue.

Stupid offtopic / please-delete-reply:
If your LF's are XGT's, I'd go the other way. I'd shove a 100w HID kit into them, keep the LED bar and sell all six HID spots.
If the LF's are 170's or Blitz's, then I'd agree with what ya doing.

I have nothing concrete but we are optioning alot of our machines with LED (up from HID) at customers request.
We just got in these crazy "COOLON" LED's and they are BRIGHT, dont resemble anything close to a traditional work light though.
http://www.coolon.com.au/industrial-cp24 <---- THESE. Bout $1800 beans a pop though...

I am simply saying I have had both and prefer the LED lights, no warm up time.

i'd be curious to see the HID vs LED comparison over halogen Vs LED.
what's next? Kerosene lantern Vs LED.....
I realise it's the way of the future, but a bit out of reach price wise for the average joe

hahaha i put a comment about suggesting he test HID's with LED's.
He didn't like that much and said he was simply "comparing them" not testing them.
Suggested to him to change his video from ultimate automotive lighting test to ultimate automotive light comparison.

Im a mechanic on a mine site and we are changing out all the headlights and HID work lights to LEDs.I dont know how much better they are but some operators are saying that the LEDs are to bright to on coming traffic (they are very white).
The thing is the reason everyone is going this way is not for better light output or reduced power usage but because of the life span of a LED. When a haul truck is parked at the works shop for a hour while some one gets around to changing out the head light the company has just lost $50k in lost production. So just one hour saved has just about paid for half the fleets LEDs (about $4000 per truck) and every hour after that is big money in the bank... or dirt down the belt. The worked out that it was going to save them nearly $1 000 000 a year in lost production.

I sell and import led lightbars they are a quality light for a light that throws a large flood of light for about 500 mts with the smaller lights but fills in all the shadows if you want to see 5km up the road buy hid lights which I also sell for people that want that type of application. they also are low current draw so they are excellent for setting up camp and leaving on as a worklight and not being worried that the battery flat like when you run about 6 hids . For a hour or 2
Just my 2 cents

I've been impressed with the short range illumination provided by LED arrays...... but long range - not there yet IMO.
I believe that with an array of light sources its difficult to get a good beam formed with the small reflectors available..... a single source such as an HID or conventional bulb can have a single large reflector and therfore form a more defined beam.
So short range... have to love LEDs... long range,,, still in development.
However i can see the day comming when a single source LED will be viable in a big reflector... things are changing that fast on the LED fornt :-)

30in light bar and 75w hid spot light covers both long and short range distances.
Ill take some comparison photos if people are intrested...

Comparrison ? How can you compare different reflectors , lenses and mounting positions ?
I like LED's they are the way of the future... but lets see setups as identical as possible - thats worth looking at iMO
